The 14th Amendment End Game
Turn on the news.

Flip to discussions about immigration and the Arizona "Paper's Please" law.

The GOP intends to debate it: http://colorlines.com/archives/2010/08/gop_to_party_like_its_1868_says_lets_debate_14th_amendment.html

But, are they only debating American-born children, or do they intend to take the entire amendment apart - blow it up like planets colliding to ring asunder the figments into their definition of "personhood?"

The 14th Amendment is the first amendment that uses the term, "person," instead of "men."

And corporations got "personhood" before blacks and before women.

Take a few moments to reflect on the 14th: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourteenth_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution

I fear for my personhood.

5. That's what I have been saying.
There is no way 2/3 of the House or Senate would vote to amend this. AND if the did you know darn well 3/4 of the states won't approve. It is a shame we couldn't have an amendment that prohibits republicans from doing what they are in the senate. Wish I could buy up all the media.

I would not be like Fox. I would allow both sides of an issue to be broadcast. BUT I would make it the responsibility of each and every commentator to VERIFY ANYTHING they tell on the air. No second chance. If they lie they are gone. Fox would close down wouldn't it. And Rush and Coulter would soon be off the air for good.

2. And They're Gonna Repeal This Where?
Methinks some folks need a refresher on how an Ammendment is enacted or how it can be repealed. I doubt there's the 2/3rd in either the house or Senate to pass this and then it'd have to pass muster in 34 states. That's a tall order.

This is more GOOP race baiting...more attempts to milk "white victimhood" that seems to be one of their few "selling points"...especially in the South.

6. I am a Southerner.
I figured this out two days ago - and now Keith is reporting on it.

I'm also a woman. Corporations got personhood before my gender did.

The white racists want to repeal the Amendment and, yes, they are laying the groundwork to get this to pass in the House and I can name at least 30 states who would jump all over this - my ignorant state included.

Of course it's race baiting, but the ultimate goal is to rewrite the damn thing to take out "natural" completely, so that corporations are given complete personhood, period, end of question.

3. Something to look forward to if the repubs get control of the Senate.
"Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) officially supports a review of the 14th Amendment to the Constitution, which grants children of undocumented immigrants status as U.S. citizens, his office confirmed to the Huffington Post on Monday.

A spokesman said that the Kentucky Republican believes that "we should hold hearings" on the matter. McConnell had not previously commented on the issue before, the spokesman confirmed."

Love this: "Being a nation of immigrants is either a point of pride or a source of fear. By reaching for the 14th Amendment, Republicans are making plain that they intend to stoke and exploit the latter emotion."

4. "... the first amendment that uses the term, 'person,' instead of 'men.'"
Amendments 4, 5, 12 all refer to "persons". I don't think any of the Amendments refer to "men".

7. Sort of... they use "people," which was "men" in the vernacular
and not "men" as in "Man," but as in male.

Abigal Adams to husband, John: “Remember the Ladies, and be more generous and favorable to them than your ancestors. Do not put such unlimited power into the hands of the Husbands. Remember all Men would be tyrants if they could. If particular care and attention is not paid to the Ladies we are determined to foment a Rebellion and will not hold ourselves bound by any Laws in which we have no voice or Representation.”

John's answer?

No dice - men won't give up their dominance.

8. No, they use "person" (or "persons").
The 4th, 5th and 12th Amendments use the term "person". The 4th also uses "people", as do the 1st, 2nd, 9th and 10th.
