counterfeit scam
The other day a friend went into the downtown Arlington Heights Citibank to take out cash to pay a bill at a Bank of America Bank. She was given in the amount of cash, a $100 bill. At the Bank of America Bank they told her the $100 bill was counterfeit and confiscated it. She made a police report out and went to Citibank, who denied giving a counterfeit $100 bill out. She is now out $100. Her bill is not paid and she doesn't know what else to do. This is Citibank who passed this bill off. If you can't trust a bank to give you cash who can you trust? Be aware when you take out cash, even from a bank.

1. She should get a copy of the police report and go to the local Secret Service
office and talk to them. One of the two banks involved (prob B of A) has probably already reported it and had the SS pick up the bill, but just in case they haven't, she should let them know. Usually the person who gets stuck with the bill is out the money because you can't prove you got that specific bill from the bank, but it's still horrible for your friend. Maybe if the SS investigates and finds a bunch of counterfeit money at Citibank, she can get reimbursed, but I doubt it.

2. Your friend needs to move her money to a local bank or credit union.
Bank of America and Citibank are thieves and liars, corrupt as a faulty hard rive. She would have had a better hearing of her problem at a local bank or credit union.

3. A quick way to check
is to hold the bill between thumb and forefinger right below the presidents face, on his collar.
Then rub your thumb downward, it will feel rough. Counterfeiters take a one dollar bill and bleach it and reprint it with higher denominations. It will pass the pen test because the paper is right, the security strip still says one dollar, but most people don't take the time to look, or like me it is to small to read easily. As soon as the bill is in your hand, one swipe of the thumb can tell you if its fake. This was explained to my wife at work in a class on counterfeit cash.

5. The counterfeiters are way more sophisticated than that today. Some
people use the yellow pens to mark them??? Useless!!!
