Howard Dean is.... DLC?

He just spent a 10 minute segment on Morning Joe being an unabashed supporter of Barack Obama, including Obama's Afghanistan policy (at the end of the segment).

He also said that entitlements needed to be on the table (along with defense and tax cuts) for fixing the deficit.

If he came on DU and posted EXACTLY what he said on Morning Joe, he'd be accused of being a cheerleading "sensible" Democrat and be unrecced into oblivion.

Jesu. Sometimes you can't tell the left from the right and right now is one of those times. Actually, we are having a lot of those times on DU now.

Nothin' like no context. Just a drive-by hit.

10. Watch the MSNBC clip later today when it becomes available.

Howard Dean's words were exactly what folks like me have been saying for months.

14. Which do you believe
There will be no more supplemental war spending bills because it will all be within the General Budget or we need Supplemental War spending from time to time.
Both are positions of Obama.

6. Context is everything
I'll be critical here in ways I won't generally be around the right wingers. I'm a major defender of Obama around the right wingers, even on issues I might be critical of around here. On Afghanistan, the right wingers don't have a leg to stand on in criticizing Obama, not after 8 years of disaster on Bush's part.

As a strategy, when dealing in public, one needs to be willing to discuss entitlements, IN THE CONTEXT OF DEFENSE CUTS, and other programs. However, one can also say that knowing that the two will compare favorably for entitlements. And what does it mean to be "on the table" when coming from a Howard Dean? None of the programs are perfect and putting them on the table can be an opportunity to strip right wing restrictions and complications out that do nothing but pander to their social conservatives and increase costs. Yeah, let's put "social security" on the table and discuss the caps, or how "capital gains" have no payroll taxes upon them. So GOP wanna have them "on the table" now?

11. That's because Dean is a team player.
He knows how politics work. Unlike many he's not out for himself, he tends to think greater good.

I love Dean. Still.

12. Here?
He hardly came around with that list of 100+ accomplishments or anything.

But more importantly he didn't come around HERE with those statements.

I've seen cheerleading practice, they ain't nearly so cheery in practice as they are at the game.

22. I'm sure he's historically had some connection with the DLC
Also the sort of carefully worded statement a politician makes on television is quite a different thing from the sort of comment one makes among other lefties on a message board.
