Tomorrow Helen Thomas will be 90 years old

I can't give out her home phone or private address on public board, but I'll be calling her to
say happy birthday tomorrow, and if anyone else here has any birthday wishes, I'll pass them on.

For the record, I asked her in June if she was interested in doing anything for her birthday,
in which case I would fly back up to Washington for the day. Her answer was "absolutely not,
it's just a day."

August 4th, 1920 in a small town in Kentucky. Who knew?

Definitely not "just a day."

Oh, there's a certain guy, also in DC, at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, who also has a birthday tomorrow.
I'm betting he won't be bringing Helen a cupcake this year :-(

39. I'm now in Dallas

So I can't do it in person, BUT...........

Last Thursday, I did bring her (and Howard) a selection of 75% chocolate from various sources, made
by the French chocolate maker Bonnat. Both Helen and Howard have reported back and said they love
the stuff (if you're ever in Paris, there is a whole selection of Bonnat chocolate at the Galérie
LaFayette). Both Helen and Howard are big fans of dark chocolate.

I had asked Helen months ago if I should fly up back to DC for her birthday, but she said that turning
ninety years old was a day that she preferred not to be made into a big deal.

I wasn't there today, but from what I understand, she did not get her wish---thank goodness!!
