If Bush were still President, we wouldn't have even heard about the "mosque"

If this were, say, 2007.... the Muslim "Community Center" would have quietly been granted its permit to build with little or no fanfare. It really isn't at "ground zero" anyway.

It wouldn't be called a "mosque" in the media and the location wouldn't be described as "ground zero". The media wouldn't cover it at all. They would've never heard of it.

Other than those people who used the building or lived near it, nobody would have ever known it was being built.

It would have been "media invisible".

Just like none of us would've ever heard of Shirley Sherrod or the "New Black Panther" party.

We know about this "story" because the RW media need to continue their "summer of race baiting and playing wedge politics".

This is a classic Rovian wedge.

A Muslim group wants to build a community center, on a site they've owned for 27 years, that happens to be not far from where the Trade Center used to be.

It's a non-story that none of us would know about if it weren't for the GOP's need to play on fear and outrage to gin up voter passion.

3. The Republicans have read their Machiavelli.
They have a real skill for identifying the very worst in human nature and harvesting the outrage as votes at election time. Nobody knows this better than the message engineers who concocted this ridiculous scandal in the first place.

5. We'd probably have still heard about it.
The difference is we'd be hearing how the president was against it.
They spent 7 years of Bush's presidency drumming up hatred for Muslims.
"If you let them build a community center here, then the terrorists win! And this somehow justifies the war in Iraq too!"

7. If Bush were in office he'd be at the opening if it didn't interfere with vacationing
He'd be using the occasion as a prop to deflect from charges of being anti-Muslim.

Republicans are insane hypocrites and will do and say whatever works within the context of propping up their bogus ideology.

8. Sorry, but you're wrong...
While the Bush Administration wouldn't be interested in playing this up, plenty of down-ticket Republicans aspiring for future office wouldn't be silent.

10. It's -always- an election year
Rick Lazio and Carl Paladino are running for Governor.

Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich and Rudy Giuliani and angling for the 2012 Presidential nomination.

It's always the right time for pandering...
