Analysis: Iraq combat end a huge gamble

An Iraqi army solider stands guard at the scene of a roadside bomb attack that targeted an army patrol in Baghdad on Aug 3, killing and wounding several soldiers and bystanders.

Analysis: Iraq combat end a huge gamble

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama hailed the coming end of the U.S. combat mission in Iraq, but the gamble is huge — a wager that the country won’t fall back into murderous anarchy.

And as he spoke of the need to be “humbled by the profound sacrifice” of American men and women who fought the war, Obama left out or glossed over some politically uncomfortable key facts.

That may reflect Obama’s sinking poll numbers — driven by a stubborn 9.5 percent unemployment rate, an anemic economic recovery and broad anti-incumbent sentiment — with just three months remaining to congressional elections.

There is a good chance Obama’s Democrats could surrender their big majority in the House and several seats in the Senate. They could even lose control of both chambers.

The president was walking a difficult line in his speech Monday to the Disabled American Veterans. His ambiguous record on the war before taking office and the fact that an end-of-2011 total withdrawal deadline was already in place were sure to have diluted his message.

3. Not meant for you UHC what I'm going to say

but I think it's a fool who would buy into the mem that we're going to lose the house or the senate this next election. The American people, save for a few of those here, are for the most part very happy to have the man we have leading us now. The American people I see and mix with are glad we have competency in the Whitehouse and they see where the bottle neck is and its not the Democratic party members who are causing nothing to happen like it should be its plain to them that the Pukes are to blame. Having said that I don't think there will be a bunch of shooting oneselves in the feet, so to say, going on in this next election. The press is owned and controlled by the Pukes and most or a majority of the people see that for what it is.

I want to add: One of the things that made me vote for President O was the change thingy, meaning that he was going to work to change the vitriol that has consumed washington these last 30 years, hell all the way back to the nixionian time, and he is working on that very hard, Thats what the bi-partisan part is all about and again its the fool who can't see that for what it is. I'm no superman and I can see that as plain as the nose on my face.
