Poll: More View Afghan War Docs Leak as Harmful
Poll: More View Afghan War Docs Leak as Harmful

(Aug. 3) -- WikiLeaks may have succeeded in boosting flagging public interest in the war in Afghanistan, but it doesn't have the support of most Americans in posting thousands of military documents on its website.

~snip~

Last month, the online transparency organization posted more than 70,000 classified military documents on its website, a collection it calls the Afghan War Diary. Julian Assange, founder and editor of WikiLeaks, has cited the documents as evidence of U.S. war crimes in Afghanistan, while U.S. officials assert the documents provide no new information and yet endanger Afghans and U.S. military personnel.

A poll of about 1,000 adults conducted last week by by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press found that many Americans appear to agree with the U.S. government's position. The poll found that 47 percent of those questioned said the leak hurt the public interest, while 42 percent believed it served the public interest.

But those who followed the issue closely were even more negative, the poll found.

~snip~

With U.S. law enforcement continuing its investigation into the leaks, the battle over WikiLeaks continues in the press. Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Mich., said today he believes Bradley Manning, the Army private suspected of providing documents to WikiLeaks, should be executed if found guilty.

2. So what? Honestly, what difference does it make what polled people think?
It doesn't make a hoot in hell what the common folk think about the leak.

3. If it goes to trial
It could matter greatly what the "common folk" think, since they'd most likely sit on the jury.

4. because the contents are so unimportant to we the people...
protect government at all costs!

If it were a matter of us being sheep, that would be one thing, but we don't even follow anymore, we are more like mushrooms.

Kept in the dark and covered with bullshit. But the other thing about mushrooms is: they apparently like it that way.

we are a sad nation.
