President Clinton to stump for Sestak
Ex-President Clinton to stump for Sestak

By Colby Itkowitz, CALL WASHINGTON BUREAU

August 4, 2010

WASHINGTON —

— Pennsylvania U.S. Senate candidate Joe Sestak will get a little help on the campaign trail next week from his ex-employer.

Former President Bill Clinton will join Sestak in Scranton Tuesday to rally support for the Democratic congressman, the Sestak campaign confirmed.

Sestak, who is running against Republican Pat Toomey to fill the Senate seat long held by Arlen Specter, worked in the Clinton administration on the National Security Council as the director of defense policy.

2. Where's Obama?
Obama showed up for Specter. Is he waiting for October? Any fund raisers planned?

5. Check out this link:

The article says that Obama is only at 44% in PA, while Michelle is at 55%.

11. Ha, hadn't thought of that
They're sending Bill, but they might do better sending her. She might raise more money too.

6. He'll go to Philly and Pittsburgh ...
He can't help Sestak in most other parts of PA ... parts of central PA are like Alabama with more snow.

10. Where'd he go with Specter
That's the real question. He made what 2 trips and had a fundraiser. Seems like he "owes" Sestak at least that, if not more since it's about keeping a seat a dem instead of just keeping it conservative dem.

13. He covered his bets with Spector ...
Specter switched to Dem and the unspoken deal was made ... vote with us, we'll support you.

They gave Specter some coverage, and then walked away.

They will support Sestak for Nov ... probably via Obama in the cities, and Biden in Scranton and other rural areas ... recognizing PA's structure. Much like in the general election.

16. Nah, he was Biden's friend
They did more than cover their bets. They really wanted him. It remains to be seen if they are as enthusiatic with Sestak, although Sestak hinted he'd rather have Michele.

17. If they really, ultimately, wanted Specter, they could have done more ...
I grew up in PA ... for most of his time, he was a moderate Republican. In recent years (under Bush #2) he moved right.

But the Tea Party has run far past him. So, his switch was planned. The administration clearly worked with him. They made a deal to get legislation passed now.

Now that the primary is over, the goal is just what it was before ... hold the seat for the Dems.

The administration will support Sestak.

18. Not much more
They were in it deep up until near the end. Deeper than any other candidate. Truth is they only pulled out at the end because they saw him losing anyway. Not alot of candidates get the kind of active support he did. I'll be watching to see if Sestak does, although it will be hard to figure out if he actually will want it.

3. This is good news.
Toomey has been running a spate of negative ads against Sestak. I hope he (Toomey) runs out of money by October! Sestak needs to start ramping up his campaign, IMO.

Who would un-rec this! geez

9. Not everything revolves around Clinton-it could be Sestak who is the problem.

8. Toomey has more money than he needs.
He didn't have to go through a primary campaign, and he just sat back and watched the two Democrats put out the money and battle it out, all the while collecting more donations.
