As BP plugs the Well From Hell, this postulation will become accepted conventional wisdon:
"As a result of this disaster, much new technology has been developed. Much in the way of new techniques has been learned. We will stockpile what is needed to avert any such disaster in the future."

That line of bullshit will be praised and accepted.

The drilling in deep and deeper waters will move ahead, freely.

1. And all those delicious dispersants made the oil ...
"GONE"! Well, that's what the M$M talking tomato told me this morning.

The lies continue to keep things moving in the same direction.

26. Incredibly, the Democratic party has not capitalized much on this disaster.

You would have expected us to use it to clobber the GOP for their greed etc.

But we have done very little with what was an unbelievable political opportunity.

3. Probably
And since brazillions of gallons of crude oil in seawater just magically disappears (cough with application of an equal amount of toxic dispersant cough) why bother stockpiling what is needed to avert any such disaster in the future? ( since all you really need is to prevent the full volume of the oil plume from reaching the surface with toxic dispersants. ) Out of sight, out of mind - and we can all get back to Happy Motoring.

4. The fact this thread is sinking kinda proves your point.
Maybe we just want to believe the lies. (Makes it easier to exist in this insane world.)

It's all better now. The oil spill won't hurt us.

Technology (with out conscience or heart) will save us.....

*sigh*

5. In fairness, the sinking thread is due to the author (me) not the content
I have an organized group of supporters who follow me, send out the call and unrec anything I post cuz I piss them off. I need at least 5 or 6 more recs to even get out from under zero.

That means I get under their skin.

That's a good thing.

progressiveindependent.com

Threads of mine have been posted over there with requests to come over here and unrec them.

14. Then I can honestly sympathize
I have no idea where you guys organize. The only "other" site I know about is the one where franks***** obsesses so much about me its frightening that he's that sick. Its like he wants to be me and lives my life vicariously. But I think he likes what I post cuz he reposts damn near everything and then adds his commentary.

Maybe that's where you guys gather?

8. I actually agree with you 100% here

It would be a shame if this disaster is used to encourage and allow MORE deepwater drilling.

The result SHOULD BE that we speed up the process of finding and building the renewable energies of tomorrow.

But my agreement with you on how things will be spun does not mean that the Government is lying about the spill being stopped and the oil dispersing.

My question to you, Stinky... is this.... would you have preferred that the oil kept gushing? Why is it a net negative that the well has been killed?

20. Its good the well has been stopped.
It could have been far worse and was, indeed, headed that way. The drilling should never have been allowed. That it was allowed without a plan to act if a disaster such was what actually happened is the fault of the government and the government's complicity and coziness with big bidniss.

I am caused to be a cynic as a result of years of lies. I am caused to be a cynic as a result of the decades of corporate closeness to government. I am angry because it continues unabated with this president.

I must say, I give you credit for engaging me in an actual discussion with no smart assed bullshit.

12. It is our duty to do whatever we can to oppose this meme.
As we know, the entire catastrophe revealed beyond doubt the utter insanity of deep-water drilling with current technology, the horrible negligence of the industry and the government in allowing such drilling in the absence of anything close to adequate safe tech, and the despicable criminality of the industry in bypassing even what 'safety' equipment and practices that did exist.

Which will come to be known as "It wasn't really all that bad after all, was it?" Another round of bonuses at BP headquarters, a batch of campaign contributions, and wa-la! All gone.
