Charges dropped against man accused of killing 2 girls
August 4, 2010 10:53 AM | 39 Comments | UPDATED STORY

Charges have been dropped against a man accused of killing his 8-year-old daughter and her 9-year-old friend five years ago after new DNA evidence linked another man to the crime.

Jerry Hobbs, dressed in a blue jail jumpsuit and his legs in shackles, did not speak or show emotion as the announcement was made during a brief hearing this morning.

Two officers then led Hobbs out a side door.

"We're glad that Jerry has been released today. It's been a long time coming," Keith Grant, an assistant public defender, said after the hearing.

the state of illinois has exonerated more people than they have executed in the last decade or so. that is why we stopped executing them.
