Kentucky miners not thrilled with Rand Paul's desire to do away with safety regulations
You know, because they are not really big fans of dying on the job, and all. Liberty-haters and collectivists, obviously:

"Rand Paul and his deregulation -- all he talks about is deregulation and the local authorities having total control over any regulation," said Tim Miller, a UMW representative in Madisonville. "I think that takes us back at least 100 years, back to when 12-year-old kids could work in the coal mines."

*****

The union members said federal regulations have come a long way in protecting miners in the workplace. They pointed specifically to rules that set ventilation and roof support standards in underground mines.

"I think we depend on federal legislation to keep us safe in the mines," said Bernie Alvey, another union member. "I hate that it happens that we have these catastrophes in the coal mines, but they always bring on new laws that keep the rest of us safe later on."

1. Gosh, you know - maybe those Union Members should vote Democratic....If the GOP had its way,
workers would still be living in 1914..in constant danger and poverty, with no future and no power to change it. Unions stopped that shit in those days, and they are still effective despite the rigtht's propaganda and hate tactics.

2. But it is SOOO unfair to the mining company owner!!!
Not like mining is a specialized trade or anything.

I am sure you can get migrant workers from Arizona to mine without safety equipment and devices.

Who needs those fancy devices anyway? Miners should go back to using candles, lanterns , and picks. They want safety equipment, they can buy their own Levis and carry around a pet canary in a cage.

Rand sure is a swell dude.
Let's hear it for Conservative T-bag candidates!

3. This deserves nationwide coverage!
After all, coal mining isn't limited to KY, and most workers recognize the need for federal regulations to maintain a safe workplace (safe as compared to the dark days before regulation, that is). (Ayn)Rand Paul needs to get tied in the minds of voters with the nutjobs that populate the teabag movement. Hope someone sends this to Rachel, Cenk, Keith et al.

Oh, yeah...K & R!
