Black members of tea party dispute racist claims
WASHINGTON – Black members of the tea party movement on Wednesday rejected charges that the group's activists are racist, saying they oppose President Barack Obama because of his policies not his skin color.

The members gathered at a Washington news conference in the wake of allegations about its rank and file, heightened by the recent split with a Tea Party Express leader who had posted a letter on his blog written from "Colored People" to Abraham Lincoln. The post suggested that black people would choose slavery over having to do real work.

The black members said the racism that has been attributed to the tea party movement came from outsiders who infiltrated the groups to discredit their work and it should be rejected.

"Democrats have re-enslaved America," said Kevin Jackson, president of the Black Conservative Coalition. He said tea party activists, if successful, would reduce the size of government and set in motion another Emancipation Proclamation, the document that President Abraham Lincoln signed that effectively ended slavery.

"This time, even the white folks get freed," said Jackson, who accused Obama of viewing fellow blacks as "mongrels."

Democratic National Committee spokesman Hari Sevugan declined to respond to the tea party leaders' criticism. The White House also declined to comment.

Other tea party speakers called Democrats white supremacists and elitists. Conservative Moms for America leader Mary Baker said Democrats were pushing "anti-God politics."

"Destroy America. That's what the D in Democrat Party means," she said.

Alan Keyes, who unsuccessfully ran for the U.S. Senate against Obama in 2004, said the president "got elected on a virulent form of racism" by exploiting his race during the 2008 campaign.

6. There will always be minority groups who stand with their oppressors.
Malcolm X said it well in his speech about house and field slaves. I don't think that every person that supports the tea party is necessarily racist, but there is an underlying racist sentiment that they are using to gin up support. I have seen some of the worst anti-immigrant sentiment leveled by people who are immigrants themselves, some of them from my own family. It is that same mentality that drives minorities and gays to support conservative movements despite all evidence that conservatives are only looking to exploit minorities for political gain.

16. Bigdude can't use teh google, so I did it for him.
http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/111611-obama-calls-african-americans-a-mongrel-people-

When asked about his background, which includes a black father and white mother, Obama said of African-Americans: "We are sort of a mongrel people."

"I mean we're all kinds of mixed up," Obama said. "That's actually true of white people as well, but we just know more about it."

The president's remarks were directed at the roots of all Americans. The definition of mongrel as an adjective is defined as "of mixed breed, nature, or origin," according to dictionary.com.

Obama did not appear to be making an inflammatory remark with his statement and the audience appeared to receive it in the light-hearted manner that often accompanies interviews on morning talk shows.

Hardly the same thing as what our new friend was implying.

19. It's wrong to mischaracterize what someone is saying.
Mongrel has a rather benign definition in the context that Obama used it. But accusing Obama of essentially being a sell-out to his race, as the unhinged freak in the article did, actually IS offensive.
