You don't have to be African-American to support racial equality.

You don't have to be gay to support marriage equality.

In fact, you can be like me, a heterosexual guy who is still vaguely uncomfortable when viewing Brokeback Mountain, but refuses to impose standards of his own discomfort upon other human beings.

That's the real problem with the H8ers: they assume the "ick factor" they have regarding gays means that gays must be perverted, evil "abominations". They refuse to consider that it might just be their own internal limitations that make them feel that way.

4. no, you just have to be a foreign country like Afganistan before
our government worries about you having equal rights.

Just how long does the ERA have to wait for total ratification?

5. Pretty much.
Just because I don't want to watch two guys going at it doesn't mean I don't support their right to do it OR their right to get married and do it.

8. well, I'm a heterosexual female and I'm not uncomfortable with "brokeback mtn"
I came out of a religious fundamentalist upbringing in the south.

Education helped me to understand that those folks had been lying to themselves and to me all their lives.

This is why fundies try to keep their children stupid by religious schooling - because the truth really would set them free.

10. Dead on. We need people to own their own emotions, prejudices, hang-ups, whatever

Everyone has some kind of hang up about something...

The problem is not that people experience their own negative emotions and prejudices...

The problem starts when people believe that they are entitled to act to control others to alleviate their own shit.

And, the more someone acts out to control another person, the more dysfunctional the individual.

11. I am a heterosexual male, 75 years old, and I am at home with
all faiths, all sexual orientations, all races, all nationalities etc, etc. I was far more comfortable with Brokeback mountain, than I am withs movies and television programs that treat sex like a tupperware party.
