Remember when Brittany Spears married her friend in Vegas........
and got it annulled the next day??

So the GOP idiots can stop this "sanctity of marriage" crap!!

It is amazing they think Spears marriage was legit and a loving Gay couple who really wants to get married and stay together is not.

These GOP idiots were the same ones against inter-racial marriage 60 years ago.

To the hell with all of them!

1. His name is Jason Alexander
Let's accord this holy union all the dignity and respect it deserves. Those hallowed 55 hours were blessed by God, ordained in Heaven, and solemnized at a casino chapel. What's not to say it's sanctified?

4. But God LOVED that marriage!
Sure they didn't propagate and continue the species, but they furthered the traditions of marriage!

Um... right?

2. I live in Iowa where gay marriage is legal...
...and has been legal for many months now.

I can attest that living in a state where gay marriage is legal has not caused me suddenly leave my
husband of ten years because I suddenly find myself attracted to my neighbor Sheila.

The Iowa Fundies warned our entire state that if gay marriage was passed--it would destroy marriage. Destroy I tell you!!!

I'm so proud of my state!

3. In all fairness...
...there were plenty of Democrats against interracial marriage then and for many years after. In fact, the Democratic Party dominated in the states where resistance was strongest.

Your beef isn't with a party, it's with the forces of conservatism.

15. Very true.
There were a lot of Dems in favor of laws against interracial marriage, and not just in the southern states. It's so hard to imagine now that there was once a time, not even fifty years ago, when it was illegal in many states for those of different races to marry and too many people not only saw nothing wrong with such laws, but supported them. As if people with different skin colors couldn't be in love and as if they had the right to determine for people who they could and couldn't love based on that. And now much of the same rhetoric is being used against gay marriage, sometimes word for word, just substitute "gay" for "race." And someday people will look back at all this huffing and puffing over it and wonder just what the hell the fuss was about, the way we now do with interractial marriage.

6. Remember when people knew how to spell "Britney"?
Just kidding! :)

Seriously, that's a real bad example. She had a severe mood disorder, and wasn't exactly making good choices. With treatment, she's obviously doing a lot better now.

Being prejudiced against people with mental illness is no better than being prejudiced against the GLBT community.

I do agree with your point about how straight people's relationships are no better than those of GLBT people. I'm thinking Newt Gingrich, Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly....

9. Yes, I agree
I don't understand why some people feel the need to be negative toward Britney. She does support gay marriage and tweeted that she's happy about this ruling.

26. And he should seriously rethink that position.
Because it's pretty goddamn embarrassing when at least three members of the Bush Crime Family* are to the left of a Democratic President on ANY issue. Not to mention it's just fucking WRONG to oppose civil rights for anybody. One would think a guy born of a marriage that was itself "illegal" in many states at the time could see that reality.

12. I'm sorry, but it IS about the sanctity of some marriages.
The marriage of hate and fear.

The marriage of cynicism and political hypocrisy.

The marriage of lies and bullshit.

The marriage of The Religious Right and the GOP.

16. And don't forget the whole "Who Wants to Marry
a Millionaire" nonsense, that reality show where fifty women vied to marry a millionaire they didn't even know and hadn't met and the wedding took place right after he'd chosen the "lucky" bride. Infuriating that that was actually considered a valid marriage that didn't cheapen its sanctity when gay couples who'd been together for years weren't afforded the same rights because it would "destroy" the sanctity of marriage. Like we heteros and our quickie marriages and high divorce rates aren't doing that already.
