Evidence at trial regarding campaign to pass Prop 8 uncloaks most likely explanation for its passage
". . . a desire to advance the belief that opposite-sex couples are
morally superior to same-sex couples. The campaign
relied heavily on negative stereotypes about gays and lesbians and
focused on protecting children from inchoate threats vaguely
associated with gays and lesbians."

excerpt from the the Findings of Fact and Conclusions of Law in Perry et al v. Schwarzenegger et al Challenge to "Proposition 8": https://ecf.cand.uscourts.gov/cand/09cv2292/files/09cv2292-ORDER.pdf

1. I've been considering the arguments against allowing gays and
lesbians to adopt children. The chief albeit fallacious argument is that children raised by gays and lesbians will themselves catch teh gay. After careful thought, my response to that is "So?"

2. the contradiction is glaring

Defending and supporting opposite sex marriages based on promoting 'families' and children, yet discouraging the prospect of the formation of same-sex families raising children by denying recognized marriage and the rights and privileges associated with that recognition.

3. Don't confuse the efforts with "thinking"
The bigots don't particularly show any signs of thinking, and I think it's a mistake to presume that they do. They react to stimuli, much like if you poke them with a stick. Evidence of higher level brain activity isn't always present.

4. Besides, "single" gays & lesbians have been adopting children for decades.
The benefits of marriage can only make things better.

5. Not sure why people would expect the legal arguments in favor...
... of Prop 8 would be any different than what you hear homophobes shouting in conversations or on the radio. Check the opinions of your average conservative bigot on the subject of Prop 8 and then compare that to the testimony given in support of prop 8 to the court. See any difference?

6. I'm sure Prop 8 opponents in court are counting on that
From the findings, it looks like we were extremely well prepared and gave the judge plenty evidence to rule in our favor.

And, of course, what would we expect to show its face behind support for the measure?
