Republican running for Tennessee governor was once found not guilty by reason of insanity
Well that explains a lot, doesn't it?

Marceaux has lengthy Criminal Court appearance record

NASHVILLE — Basil Marceaux Sr., the Chattanooga Republican candidate for governor whose unconventional political views have attracted national attention, has been in and out of Hamilton County Criminal Court since 1993, county records show.

Many of the 19 cases involved misdemeanor traffic infractions. Marceaux, 57, was found not guilty by reason of insanity on July 25, 2005, in seven cases involving mostly traffic offenses ranging from driving an unregistered vehicle to failing to have insurance, according to court records. snip

In a Tuesday evening interview, Marceaux, who appeared Monday night on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmer Live!” television show, said his traffic infractions for offenses such as speeding, auto registration and failure to have insurance were deliberate acts to test traffic-stop laws he believes violate the U.S. Constitution.

His campaign platform includes a pledge to “immune you from all state crimes for the rest of you life!”

10. Hell he might even win
Republicans truly don't care about qualifications or quality of candidate, but only whether they are Republican or not..

20. No he wont
Do a little research. He's run for multiple offices in TN on multiple occasions and has never been out of the low single digits in vote percentage. He usually garners about 1% of the vote.

14. I've said this a few times
I've met the guy, talked to him. I honestly think he is mentally ill. He is mostly harmless. He has delusional thoughts, repetitive irrational thinking. He probably is schizophrenic. He is just a crazy guy, like a ton of other crazy guys. A guy who hangs out in front of a gas station talking to people and handing out cards. The media latched on to him and everyone is laughing at a mentally ill dude.

I think the sad thing here is that the gop politicians are saying so many thinks that are nuts that the media apparently couldn't tell a guy who is legitimately mentally ill. Well, actually, the said thing is that they are putting a mentally ill guy out there for people to laugh at.

27. unlike Wisconsin
where there are no mentally ill folks. Yes, there are a lot of stupid people, and I'm not saying the guy isn't stupid. I am saying he is mentally ill and it really isn't that funny to laugh at mentally ill people.

26. thanks for sharing the other side of the story from your experiences with him
We have a few guys like that in our local small town. Last thing I'd want to participate in would making fun of someone with a mental illness.

I think the problem is that so many non-mentally ill repubs and tea party types have such crazy ideas that we all assume that every person we see running for office with crazy ideas is just that kind of bagger/pub type that is being so vocal now days.

Someone like this guy who actually suffers from a mental illness is getting lumped in with the others that are making headlines right now. That is pretty sad now that I know where he is actually coming from on this. And I'm pissed at the media for making him out to be something that he is not - they need to leave him alone.

22. he sounds drunk most of the time......or insane.
I love how he claims, of the second amendment, that if he becomes governor he would likely fine people for NOT having guns in their homes. He won't shake hands with people because, 'if I shake hands with you, you might come back to me later asking for something from me because we shook hands once.'. Shaking hands constitutes a bribe with this guy. He is quite a hoot. If you haven't been to his website and listened to him, it's a good laugh.....acutally makes Sharon Angle sound like a genius.

24. Y'all do realize that he's not really even in contention, right?
The only three the local media are covering is Bill Haslam, Ron Ramsay and Zach Wamp.

I mean, Basil's entertaining and all, but no one in this state (Tennessee) even heard of him until last week.
