A timely map that shows the jurisdiction of the federal court.

And one of California:

California is divided into four federal judicial districts that are referred to as the Northern, Eastern, Central, and Southern Districts of California.

The ruling against Prop. 8 was made by the chief judge of the Northern District of California.

The Northern District comprises the counties of Alameda, Contra Costa, Del Norte, Humboldt, Lake, Marin, Mendocino, Monterey, Napa, San Benito, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, San Francisco, San Mateo, and Sonoma.

Court for the Northern District is held in San Francisco, Eureka, Oakland, and San Jose.

8. My dear Commie Pinko Dirtbag...
I actually don't know the history of this, sorry...

It sure looks possible, though, given the geography.

11. Good. I like maps, Peggy. The Ninth Circuit is the court where the
appeal, if any will go. And it may be that the Ninth Circuit makes exactly the same decision. They should, but of course, that does not mean they will.
