Senator Ben Nelson is a flaming asshole who is an embarrassment to the Democratic Party.

Congratulations JUSTICE Kagan, here's to a long career.

1. Let the calls to "primary" Nelson by people who have never stepped a toe in the state begin.
If the Democrats of this state could get rid of him and still elect a (D) in the general WE WOULD. Not going to happen. Period.

Does it mean anything to have that D behind your name when you are a flaming asshole who is an embarrassment to to the Democratic party? Not much. I'll give you that - but he does vote (D) more often than any republican alternative from this state would. So be careful what you wish for I guess.

2. The Republicon Nebraskarians are disgustipated with Nelson, too

That's for sure. The dude is playing both ends against the middle. He doesn't stand for anything but expediency.

Republicon Huskers may like this vote -- but it was a FAIL. It made no damn difference at all.

The only thing Benny Boy is delivering to the Heartland is a shipment of waffles & FAIL.

6. The key in your post - "it made no damn difference at all." - That's precisely why he did it.
It was a "safe" no vote for him. That way he can slide back on in to the state on his big greasy ass and say "see, I listened to the people." and hope to keep his seat.

Personally I think he's toast for voting in favor of healthcare. His seat will go to a republican. I don't like him, but I don't consider replacing him with another republican puke any kind of victory either.

9. Exactly - he wanted political cover
A lot can happen between now and 2012, but I'm betting he'll retire. Republicans won't forgive him for the HCR vote and Demoocrats are generally angry with him. Either Ricketts will run again, or we'll end up with Lee Terry or Jeff Fortenberry in the Senate. Either way, that'll be an officially Republican seat in two years.

8. It is the only thing I have agreed with him on.
There are human beings held without charges in violation of the Constitution of the United States because of an anti-American concept of "indefinite detention" "Justice" Kagan . So I join someone who I detest because the idiot got it right though he might not have known it. I am an American and I'm against all deviations from Constitutional protections from tyranny and I'm for the rule of law that is my heritage and birthright. Even under the King of England, we had the right to face our accusers.
