On disagreement with mods/admins decisions

I love the mods here, and I rarely disagree with their decisions.

Today I found myself disagreeing with a decision to lock a thread. Rather than putting up an OP calling out the mods, I sent a private message to them, requesting that they reconsider their decision.

I don't know yet what their response will be to my request, but I'll accept and respect their decision, whatever it is.

In any case, I made my disagreement known in an APPROPRIATE way.

With the admins, it may be a different case. It's entirely appropriate to contact them with our concerns. But it's also appropriate to discuss those concerns on these boards. And even those who are most critical of the management of this site have to give credit to the admins for tolerating an incredible amount of dissent in the forums.

I don't think even Skinner, smart as he is, has the answer. But I have to give him and the other admins credit for allowing so much dissent here.

I don't know where we'll end up on these political divisions, but I do know that I'm not leaving or giving up un DU.

I didn't choose sides, or call out anyone of any persuasion. I don't think giving a nod to the admins for allowing a lot of free discussion puts me on one side or the other.

I've seen many of your posts, and respect your opinion. I'd like to hear more about your perspective.

To tell you the truth, I thought this one would be pretty innocuous. But I could very well be wrong, and you could be right.

I was making a point, which really had nothing to do with me, personally.

I have to admit that my point had to do with mod calls, and inclusion of the admins was an afterthought.

But I don't see how this might be interpreted as self-promotional.

Love the bus reference. In a thread on inapropriate behavior on DU, I told a story from 4th grade, when i was admonished to "Be better on the bus." My story sunk like a stone, but whenever I see inappropriate behavior here, Im still tempted to reply, "Be better on the bus!"

So I don't know yet if my plea had any effect.

I rarely alert, but when I have, the mods have agreed and acted.

When I was new and was attacked for BEING new, the mods acted to delete the offending post--even though I had not alerted.

I respect the mods, and their decisions. After all, they are not some OTHER class of people--they are US, drawn from our ranks. I'd guess that's a thankless--but illuminating--job.
