SCOTUS: It looks to me like the ladies have it
When the Supreme Court next convenes, three out of the four justices who do not belong
to the extreme right fringe are women. Bader-Ginsburg has battled cancer, but is still
very much with us. Only Stephen Breyer represents the male gender for the progressive
wing of the court.

All three women come to the Court with high marks for intellectual capacity, where at
least two of the men of the far right, Thomas and Alito, have shown themselves nearly
incapable of rendering independent opinions, or at best unwilling to do so.

While I don't have any gender preference with regard to Supreme Court Justices, I do
think that Bader-Ginsburg, Sotomayor and Kagan have the potential of forming a formidable
bloc, minority though they may be, that could have an influence beyond their numbers.
If their opinions, whether majority concurring or minority dissent, are eloquent enough,
they could be a group of historic significance. I doubt they have the capacity to move
the rightist extremism of the strong-willed Scalia or Roberts, nor the sway to move
Roberts-clone Alito or Scalia subsidiary Thomas, but maybe, just maybe, Kennedy, who
respected O'Connor, might soften his ever-hardening tendency to fall under the sway of
his fellow rightists.

It would be an uphill battle, and would require some brilliant legal reasoning to get there,
but along with Breyer, I see a LOT of candlepower in the three women Justices who will sit
when the Court next convenes.

2. These women, like Sandra Day O'Connor had to work
harder and shine more brilliantly than their male counterparts to get where they are. They will way out-work, out-perform and out-produce any of the men on the Court.

Roberts, for example, as two school-aged children. How is he supposed to be an effective father and keep pace with three women, one with grown children and two with no children and the ability to focus their attention on their work? He will not be able to keep up.

As for Scalia, he loves to have a good time and be in the limelight. His love of attention will not be satisfied in a court with the likes of our trio of dedicated career women. Alito and Thomas have already been characterized as pretty ineffective.

The future looks bright for liberals, at least as far as the Court is concerned. Of course, it will take a year or so for the women to learn the ropes.

8. Sadly, this bunny, and maybe many more, will mainly remember O'Conner being a member of a felonious
five in December 2000 who rendered a horridly unconstitutional decision thereby setting this nation on the path of so much of the god-awful wretchedness that followed. :P

6. I may not be a woman
But I've been hanging around with one of them for the last 36 years, and we made two more in the meantime.
In that amount of time, I've definitely acquired a certain amount of respect for what they can do!

4. Do you think they'll give Scalia apoplexy?
At his age and weight, could three women be too much of a shock to his system?

7. I'd be happy if they gave him a one-way ticket to Bujumbura
And made sure he made the plane.
