Army 'birther' charged with disobeying orders
Source: AP

WASHINGTON — An Army doctor has been charged with disobeying orders after failing to show up for duty in Afghanistan and questioning whether President Barack Obama has the right to order him there.
Lt. Col. Terrence Lakin is scheduled to be arraigned Friday at Fort Belvoir, Va.
The Greeley, Colo., native did not report to Fort Campbell, Ky., in April to prepare for deployment.

Lakin said in a YouTube video that he chose to disobey orders and was inviting his own court-martial. He says he wants to see Obama's birth certificate as proof Obama was born in the U.S., as presidents must be
, and thus that the deployment order for Afghanistan is legal.
Hawaiian officials say they have records proving Obama was born there, but so-called birthers challenge that.

Obama's certification of live birth: .

I know, he wants to see another one.

As to the validity of Obama's birth certificate: snopes.

4. He deserves to get out of his cell once in a while...
...to break rocks!

This idiot had plenty of chances to reconsider, but he foolishly listened to all his deluded admirers telling him he was a hero and martyr for a noble cause.

I guess he didn't get the memo citing the adage, "Choose your battles wisely"... :)

10. Leavenworth Kansas has rocks to break?
Do they have to import them from Missouri?

19. I was told they do import the rocks. In the form of concrete.
Edited on Fri Aug-06-10 06:12 PM by Hassin Bin Sober
Don't know if this is true or not but I was told by a guy who claimed to spend some time behind military bars. He said they dump concrete where you can watch it harden and then you get to go bust it up.

11. Word. Missing troop movement is a giant deal
in this time of war, penalties are most severe. As an officer, making political statements to the media, in particular, against the commander in chief, is treason.

12. I choose this story because of the title
CNN's title was 'Birther gets his time in Court'..... I kid you not, they said that for an arraignment.

But I agree it should be serious but he has a bronze star so we shall see what 'justice' does in a military court.

13. There are two different Bronze Stars
One is awarded for valor in combat, which is denoted by a "V" device attached to the ribbon.

The other is awarded for, basically, doing an exceptionally good job, and the ribbon is plain, with no "V" device.

It is actually the same medal, but it can be awarded for very different reasons. From this birther's military job, I'd guess his Bronze is the non-valorous type.

5. I heard the details from one birther the other day.
They want to see the hospital birth certificate. Dumbasses. The certificate the hospital gives out is a souvenir for the parents; it has no legal validity.

6. Birther defenses have already been thrown out
This doctor will not get to see any proof that Obama is or is not eligible to be President. Those defenses have already been thrown out by a military judge. Refer to "Investigating Officer’s Ruling on Defense Request for Witnesses and Evidence in Accordance with Rule for Courts-Martial (R.C.M.) 405 – Article 32, UCMJ Investigation, US v. LTC Terrence L. Lakin".

7. What a nut-case...
the rethuglican Governor of Hawaii even certified President Obama's birth certificate!

"Birthers have argued that Obama was not born in Hawaii or that if he was, his citizenship was invalidated by living overseas as a child."
-- from the CNN article
http://www.cnn.com/2010/CRIME/08/06/birther.court.martial/index.html?hpt=T2

What does living overseas as a child have to do with invalidating one's citizenship if he/she was born here? Think of how many children of military members are overseas; does that mean they have lost their citizenship?

:wtf:

14. Right action. Wrong reasons. Every soldier should refuse deployment.
To both wars.

He should be given a medal for his actions and then hit upside the head for his reasons.

15. What a tool.
Obama's birth certificate was posted on the Internet. It's the same kind of form that I have.

Here is the deal: My mom and dad have told me I was born in a town in Indiana. I also have a form from the county affirming that.

Have I ever gone to "the vault" to look up any original copies of my birth records? No. Do I know the name of the doctor who delivered me? No. Is there anybody who was working at the hospial back in 1963 who can say that he/she remembers witnessing my birth? I really, really doubt it.

So, given all that, how can I REALLY be sure I was not born abroad? If somebody actually asked me that, the answer would be: "Don't be an idiot." That is how Obama should respond to the birthers.

Birthers are 100% stupid.

17. He will now become the right wing hero of the month.
Until he's thrown in prison he'll be on every right wing talk show and Faux Noise. He will be just one more in a steady stream of right wing mutants. Even ten years ago I would never have believed how ignorant such a large segment of our population could become. It's actually frightening. There isn't one republican who can act like an adult and admonish these crackpots.

18. Kansas is lovely this time of year.
I've heard stories about people who intentionally do shit like this because they prefer Leavenworth to Afghanistan. Wouldn't surprise me if that was the case here.

... when Bush was his commander and chief, he personally examined that birth certificate, and was satisfied that it was genuine.
