The anti-gay activists believe that gay people are diseased. That's why they can't be trusted to be involved with the boy scouts or be allowed to serve in the military. Their gayness is something that makes them crazy. They aren't capable of rational thought.

On the other hand, the anti-gay activists believe that straight people couldn't biased and that's because they are normal people. They aren't infected with gayness so they can just read the constitution as it was written and not insert any of their personal feelings into the ruling.

The pieces of their arguments all fit into an irrational puzzle.
