Ann Coulter To Headline 'Homocon' Event For Gay Conservatives

Conservative pundit and unlikely gay ally Ann Coulter is set to headline the first annual Homocon, "a party to celebrate gay conservatives" put on by GOProud, the "only national organization representing gay conservatives." The festivities are scheduled to take place in New York City on September 25.

"The gay left has done their best to take all the fun out of politics, with their endless list of boycotts and protests. Homocon is going to be our annual effort to counter the 'no fun police' on the left," said Christopher Barron, Chairman of the Board of GOProud, in a statement. "I can't think of any conservative more fun to headline our inaugural party then the self-professed 'right-wing Judy Garland' - Ann Coulter."

"I can promise you, Homocon 2010 will be a hell of a lot more fun than chaining yourself to the White House fence," Baron pledged, making light of an incident earlier this year where gay soldiers protesting the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy chained themselves to the gates of the White House.

In choosing Coulter, the organizers of GOProud appear willing to ignore her past transgressions against the gay community. The conservative pundit was condemned by gay-rights groups in 2007 when she notoriously called then-Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards a "faggot."

And earlier this year, Coulter railed against "irritating lesbian" Constance McMillen for challenging the sanctimony of heterosexual-only proms.

But Coulter's selection probably won't be surprising to many gay rights groups who have pointed out that GOProud sometimes exhibits self-destructive behavior. Earlier this year, the gay conservative group planned a fundraiser with Doug Manchester, a California businessman and hotelier who donated $125,000 to anti-gay marriage Proposition 8.

That fundraiser was held earlier this month in an event that GOProud called an effort by Manchester to "make financial amends with the gay community," which had mounted a boycott of Manchester's hotels and accused him of treating his gay employees poorly.

1. some in the GOP and the right wing want to get ahead of the bus ...
Edited on Fri Aug-06-10 03:37 PM by Botany
.... instead of being run over by it because gay rights will be the law of the land very soon and there
is nothing they can do to stop it. BTW Coulter is famous for calling democratic leaders "total
fags," but she knows that she doesn't want to be on the wrong side on the issue of gay rights.

4. for Coulter , like Limbaugh it's all about profit , they will hang out with gays and whoever in
their own personal lives while ranting about the evil liberals to the wingnut audience who will pay them and have made them wealthy.

actually gay republicans and Coulter have a lot in common in that their reasons for being republican usually have to do with wanting their tax cuts and opposing helping the poor.

much less about social conservativism. after all Coulter doesn't fit into what the social conservatives view as the "right" way to live. she isn't married with kids. and she is already in her 50s. so she probably will never have kids unless she adopts and i can't see her doing that.

fact is she enjoys the single life , just making money and being on her own. things wingnut men would never approve of.

7. I have heard from somebody who knew her that she often used to hang ....
... out and party w/ gays and lesbians. Much of what she says and does is an act for
shock value and so she can get paid.

17. Really? Cause I don't think that's the surgeon I want.
I'd rather have Michelle Pfieffer's or Meryl Streep's. They both look great and not overdone.

3. She's been out-loonied by glen beck
And she no longer gets the press for the outrageous shit she says, because it isn't so outrageous anymore in comparison with what others are saying.

Publicity means more to her than ideology, she needs her name in the spotlight so she can sell more of her silly ass books.

20. Do you really think he believes that crap?
He's a failed "morning zoo" type DJ, who developed a shtick that was designed to rope in the hicks. Which he has done very well.

But IMO it's only an act. And he really isn't all that convincing. I have several nephews who listen to them all the time and even they think he's an ass. Why do they listen to him? Because they believe he "really pisses off the liberals" which to them is hilarious.

I could be wrong but I think this guy is the latest example of a great American tradition - making money by suckering the rubes.

15. You've gotta really be swimming in self loathing to embrace
a party which compares your natural sexuality to that of bestiality. Repeatedly.
Angle wants gay parents denied adoption rights. Meanwhile, Michael Steele has been associated with GOP members who wish to criminalize homosexuality: http://gayrights.change.org/blog/view/does_michael_steele_want_to_criminalize_homosexuality

people who attend this event have serious self esteem issues.

13. What the fuck is this guy talking about?
Taken the fun out of politics with boycotts and protests? Uh, yeah, because they're active in seeking equality in society.

Either these people are not gay, or their minds are fucking warped beyond belief. Wow.

16. Could be a staged group - like the "black" GOP convention
attendees - who get front row treatment for the cameras. All 8 of them.
Let's hope these are some folks out to make a few bucks instead of people who hate themselves so much they're willing to worship at the feet of those who abuse them.
Remember all those folks with the same mass produced signs who showed up to oppose Obamacare? They were given the day off work and bus loaded in to protest. And then handed their preprinted signs. Their fatcat employers wanted the appearance of grassroots opposition.
Could be more "Acorn" type GOP theatre.
Get your popcorn ready.

It's just the ones at the top who make out like bandits. Republican Party - world's biggest pyramid scheme? Or is that Goldman Sachs?
