Edited on Fri Aug-06-10 05:13 PM by theophilus
will cost the average middle class family fourteen to fifteen hundred dollars in increased taxes. Is this true? Where does this figure come from? I am in Arkansas, by the way. Thanks for any info from you tax types....

8. I suspected as much but I just can't believe they can say this stuff and not be refuted at the
moment. This is on our NPR station and the local news man has seemed balanced. This all just makes me sick! Thanks. Any other back up will be appreciated. Could it depend on different definitions of "middle class"? I know that my opinion of mc and small business doesn't seem to jibe with Reptards definitions.

More Faux-inspired BS.

9. I'm hearing this too--that it will eliminate the dependant credits.
Or at least reduce them and cost the average family about $1000 per child per year.

I doubt if the average person--especially republican--even knows what they pay in taxes year by year.

10. So, were those dependant credits part of the Bush cuts?
I don't know, I'm asking.

18. I don't know either or even how and where to find out.
This is where I really wish the Democrats would do more to counter the lies as soon as they are out there. But it seem like they assume that inaccurate information will die out on its own simply because it is inaccurate.

And there simply don't exist any sources for information about this kind of stuff that can't be accused of bias or "having an agenda" by whichever side doesn't want to accept it. Nothing anymore is truly nonpartisan.

11. Of course it isn't posted or presented in the news that
the tax cuts are ONLY GOING TO EXPIRE for people who make over $250,000 a year. If that guy makes over $250,000 than I guess he will be paying more taxes. See the media is doing it's job. It doesn't tell people the truth. Just like it didn't tell the truth about the Health Care Bill.

13. Right now, the whole tax package is expiring
If Congress is going to assure that those making less than 250K don't see any tax increase, they better start writing the legislation. The President can't do it with an executive order.

12. "Tax Fairness"
It's about time the richest 2% started paying their fair share of our taxes.

It's simple, it's easy to remember, spread the word.

14. -ons must be nailed down hard on all numbers at all times.
You need a dollar amount or at least a range and then get a tax rate difference so you can ever accurately know what the facts are.

It's probably wise to at least toss the top 2%, if you want to toss the bottom 2% to be "fair" feel free it makes a difference but the distortion that the top 2% isn't there, if you're going to depend on an average income to say X is the average income for an American.

My guess is more in the range of about $600 but I can't swear on it.

In any event, I want them to all go and redirect those resources into rebuilding this country and putting people to work.

15. depends on many things
If they do nothing, $1400-$1500 is possible depending on how you define "middle class". Child tax credit will be cut from $1000 to $500, marriage deduction will be reduced and tax rate will go up. This will be anywhere from $100s to $1000s for a "middle class" family. For upper class it's $10,000s to $100,000s.

I wish they would be talking about making sensible changes to "the tax code". Instead they are talking about which of the "Bush tax cuts" to renew and which to expire. My guess is they will renew all of them. Forget the Bush cuts and do what's right! (some up, some down, new brackets, who knows what else is possible and fair and economically sound if they actually think and do their job).

16. Only if you failed math in 6th grade...
No doubt they're taking the additional taxes that those poor top 2% earners are gonna get, and averaging it out over all taxpayers. More situational math to go with Republican's situational ethics.
