Serial Adulterer Newt Gingrich Makes Mistake of Leaving Comments Open w/his Defense of Marriage Post

from AlterNet:

....(snip)....

• Newt you cheated on your first wife then dumped her when she was in the hospital with cancer. Later you cheated on your second wife with a 27 year old congressional aide. Maybe you should pipe down about defending marriage.

• No, I want to hear more from the twice-divorced man about how marriage has to be reserved for one man and one woman. I wonder if the two former Mrs. Gingriches would testify as to Newt’s reverence for marriage.

• Do we have a right to judge Mr. Gingrich? People make mistakes, people change and regret their former mistakes. How do we really know him and the reasons that caused his divorces. It is it our duty to judge him? I happen to think that people change or that we have never learned the truth to his changes. Quite frankly I feel it not our place to be in judgment of him.

• Mr. Gingrich will become immune to allegations of hypocrisy on the issue of marriage when he stops passing judgment on the right of others to marry.

• No one with Mr. Gingrich’s sorry record of serial adultery and failed marriages has any business dictating who may marry and under what conditions they may do so… Due to his personal history, silence is the only honorable option left to Mr Gingrich.

• I respect you tremendously, Newt, and if you run, I’ll vote for you. But I wholeheartedly disagree with you on this. I hope you and my fellow conservatives change their minds about this. The churches can, should, and need to do what they deem fit, but the state does not have that freedom. It needs to apply the law equally to everyone.

• Newt, I am a libertarian. In fact, a CONSERVATIVE libertarian. However, as a CHRISTIAN, I can’t condone the inequality that Proposition 8 created. If we want to make marriage a religious institution, then NO ONE should be allowed to be married and have special rights as such through the government. Let churches marry and everyone in the country has civil unions. ........(more)

35. I was going to say
which of the current slate of potential GOP candidates *don't* we want to run against, but then, yes, they've won with some pretty absurd characters in the past, and we must be careful what we wish for. Newt is the most dangerous of them because although he's not intelligent (GOP by definition can't be, since they must deny so many established facts to be conservative) he's very clever.

3. Newtie is a typical Republicon Family Pharisee Values kind of guy
This kind of hypocritical horseshit is the very soul of modern republiconism.

No wonder Americans have abandoned the Republicons in droves, even though the Repubs own the Mass Media Propaganda machine...

29. Leave sick wife, refuse to pay child support/alimony
http://www.salon.com/news/1998/08/28news.html

The most notorious incident in Gingrich's marriage -- first reported by David Osborne in Mother Jones magazine in 1984 -- was when he cornered Jackie in her hospital room where she was recovering from uterine cancer surgery and insisted on discussing the terms of the divorce he was seeking.

Shortly after that infamous encounter, Gingrich refused to pay his alimony and child-support payments. The First Baptist Church in his hometown had to take up a collection to support the family Gingrich had deserted.

11. Good link, Swede! Every DU'er should take the time to read through the
entire comment section! Along with the humor aimed at his arrogant hypocrisy, there are some superior, lucid, exceptionally well articulated explanations of exactly why majority doesn't rule when it comes to law.

6. Newt obviously never read this part of the New Testament

"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye." (Matt 7:1-5)

10. Oh, he's read it all right.

He just disregards it along with any other passages that are inconvenient. Like the ones that prohibit divorce without good reason, and say that remarriage after such a divorce is adultery.

7. Tired old windbag Newt and Rush talking about the ...
"sanctity of marriage", fools rush in, where angels fear to tread.

I have never heard or seen Newt do anything that I agree with, that is very unusual, almost everyone has at least one thing that is palatable, Newt...no way.

Heartless cruel bastard, slapping divorce papers on his wife when she was recovering from cancer surgery, I wonder if he did that because he figured it was the only chance he'd get w/o her beating the crap out of him.

Then the other great font of wisdom, Rush...:eyes: Hope he's got his viagra Rx up to date, and w/his own name on the label...I wonder if he takes 5 at a time? Wanna bet he'd still be looking at "Little Willey" in front of a mirror...he's chubbed up enough to not have seen it quite some time.

Pathetic losers making money from saps and goomers.

for partner #4.
As a matter of fact, you probably find some friendly {wink, wink} judge who would say it is legal for you to marry a CORPORATION!
I mean if they are citizens and all, why not. And who knows what sex a corporation is???
I bet your getting wood already.

37. language
I've seen it suggested that our language needs a word stronger that hypocrisy for this sort of behavior that hypocrisy does not take into account the self-centeredness, sanctimony, and willful ignorance of double standards of people like Newt and others. I'm not fluent in enough languages to know if there's a word somewherethere we could borrow or if we'd need to come up with a new coinage. Loved the question put about which marriage was most sacred.
