A Comment on The Hill site story about Franken and decorum
It is so funny thought I would share it. I might add this person must have dementia when it comes to republican decorum.

http://thehill.com/homenews/senate/112947-mcconnell-scolds-franken-for-making-faces-from-presidents-chair-during-speech?page=53#comments

A "handwritten note" of apology may be an adequate personal gesture by the clown from Minnesota but the response of the Senate leadership (both majority and minority leaders) should be to publicly reprimand him for his flagrant misuse of the dais and his disregard for the traditional decorum and highly sophisticated patterns of respect that make the US Senate a model for deliberative democracy. For all the problems, controversies and intense cultural conflicts of this particular time in American history, the traditions of the Senate are still of immense value - even if they may seem a bit forced at times. It has served the American people quite well for the past 2 and a quarter centuries to know that in that most exclusive deliberative body in the world, Senators speak of one another generally in the third person, with such descriptive phrases of their opponents as "the gentleman from Colorado" or the "gentle lady from Arkansas" so that even when bitterly divided on an issue, there is a basic sense of decency and honor maintained by such thoughtfulness. Franken is a flagrant violator of those traditions. His juvenile antics while Senator McConnell was speaking about one of the most important acts the Senate performs (advice and consent regarding a Supreme Court nominee) are worse than a personal insult. Franken insulted all the other 99 senators and in turn insulted the American people. One modest suggestion: Ban Franken from presiding for at least the next Congressional Session and place a public reprimand for his juvenile behavior in the Congressional Record. At least do that. The Senator from Minnesota needs to be publicly scorned for his disrespectful behavior. IMHO.

Cheney told Leahy to go f**k himself within the chamber that has 'traditional decorum and highly sophisticated patterns of respect'.

4. By all means. Let's return to the delibrative decorum of 1856, shall we?
1856: SC senator savagely beat a Massachusetts senator into unconsciousness.

On May 22, 1856, the "world's greatest deliberative body" became a combat zone. In one of the most dramatic and deeply ominous moments in the Senate's entire history, a member of the House of Representatives entered the Senate chamber and savagely beat a senator into unconsciousness.

Personally, I'm all for hitting mitch mcconnell over the head with a giant dildo, a la "A Clockwork Orange"...

However, the Conservatives are doing an excellent job of making themselves look like fools. Because Alex Bolton could use the company.

13. My Reply
It was an honest mistake Al thought Mitch was pretending to be Yertle Turtle, and the speech Mitch was giving was so absurd he mistook it for an SNL skit.

14. Thanks for posting this. The Hill is hilariously stupid. Their "modest suggestion"
is decidedly over the top. I'd like to know if they've ever taken McCain to task for his red-faced rants which certainly aren't sophisticated and don't lend anything to deliberative democracy.

17. I'm sending Senator Franken a thank you note.
It's time these morons get laughed at in their face every time they say something stupid and unintentionally hilarious. It's time that Senators spoke the truth with dignity from the podium so they don't get made fun of.

21. One of the best moments in modern day politics
Edited on Sat Aug-07-10 08:00 PM by rbrnmw
I just wish our side would stand up to them more often. I think if they did you would see a different bunch. When I was 14 there was a girl who use to pick on me and she would hit me. I always ran from her. One Day my Dad happened by and saw the whole thing. He took me home and sat me down. He said the best thing you can do is stand up to her and fight back. If she hits you hit her back Nobody likes pain he said If you don't stand up you will have to run all your life, from bullies. A few days later sure enough there she was, just waiting for a chance to humiliate me. She came at me and grabbed me I hit her with everything I had. I hit her twice and she started crying, and begged me not to hit her again. I hate violence and I don't recommend it I felt really bad for hitting her. My Dad was right though she never bothered me again like that. I found out a couple of years later that her mother and father were alcoholics who were in the bar more than at home.. So I am sure she was in a lot of pain. We were not ever best friends but, I did invite her to movies with a group of friends whenever I could. She is an RN now and doing well I hear.

24. Yeah, I was a bartender (second job) and as a woman, bullies
liked to pick on me more than the guys. I stood up to them and I did have the law on my side, so buh bye bully. Really, that's what it takes, even if you are afraid inside.

which is anything BUT democratic and is one of the root causes of the nation's inexorable decline toward third world status.

Really-- read it! It will dispel any thoughts of credibility, honor, wisdom, or any other positive characteristics of the modern-day Senate.
