13. The Bush presidency was essentially jobless
for the entire 8 years... and, most of the job creation was government jobs (Homeland Security creation & expansion for one)

15. And would you believe that he identifies as a Republican?
It's true. As a Portlander - Ohman is the resident editorial 'toonist for The Oregonian - I've followed his career for many years now. He just gets sharper and better as time goes on.

And he did write, once, that he identified as a Republican. Which means he's one of the last sane Republicans out there ... A Tom McCall/Vic Atiyeh Republican.

Good guy. I feel lucky that we have him local.

18. For Big Business MultiNational Corporations - Jobs are considered a necessary evil.
I know because I worked in that world for many, many years.

The prime directive is PROFITS - not JOBS.

That's why they use every opportunity to "downsize" - i.e. fire loyal employees who have helped them in the past to generate those profits.

That's why they use every opportunity to "outsource" - i.e. transfer the work to some impoverished part of the world where exploited workers will toil for a few dollars a month and no benefits.

That's why it's not an accident that their profits are up and employment is down - it's planned that way.

The only way jobs are coming back is if the US changes its' industrial policy to make employment a national priority.

Small business creates jobs.

Public Sector projects create jobs.

Big Business creates as few jobs as possible while still keeping the profit engine running.
