Ex-Georgia principal arrested in Caribbean on federal charges

A former Athens-Clarke County principal was arrested on federal wire fraud charges after being found to be living in the Caribbean using another name, according to published reports.

Yvonne John-Daniels, 64, a former principal of Winterville Elementary School in Athens, was arrested Aug. 3 in Trinidad and Tobago, according to the Trinidad Express. It is not known when she will be returned to the United States.

John-Daniels, living in the island nation using only her maiden name, was indicted in May 2010 along with her secretary, Margie Browning, for allegedly taking more than $155,000 in funds from an after school program.

According to the Associated Press, John-Daniels used the school's name to open Verizon Wireless and Sam's Club accounts. She also used money parents paid into the program.

John-Daniels resigned her position in Winterville, a small city near Athens, a few days before she was identified as a suspect in the embezzlement case.

She had been employed at the University of Trinidad and Tobago for three years until officials arrested her at her home, the Express reports.

Guess she loves the Carnival. Most have padded the CV rather well to get that UTT position.
