Blackberry (RIM) caves to the Saudis on Privacy and Censorship
Saudi Arabia and the makers of the BlackBerry smartphone have reached a deal on accessing user data that will avert a ban on the phone's messenger service, a Saudi official said on Saturday, according to Associated Press.

Bandar Al Mohammad, an official at the Saudi Communications and Information Technology Commission, said that RIM has expressed its "intention ... to place a server inside Saudi Arabia."

The agreement would allow the government to monitor messages and allay official fears the service could be used for criminal purposes, the official was quoted by the news agency as saying... http://gulfnews.com/business/telecoms/blackberry-deal-averts-saudi-ban-1.665028
