Angry protesters descend on mosque (CT)
http://www.ctpost.com/news/article/Angry-protesters-descend-on-mosque-606515.php

BRIDGEPORT -- About a dozen right-wing Christians, carrying placards and yelling "Islam is a lie," angrily confronted worshippers outside a Fairfield Avenue mosque Friday.

"Jesus hates Muslims," they screamed at worshippers arriving at the Masjid An-Noor mosque to prepare for the holy week of Ramadan. One protester shoved a placard at a group of young children leaving the mosque. "Murderers," he shouted.

Police arrived on the scene to separate the groups, but said no arrests were made.

Flip Benham, of Dallas, Texas, organizer of the protest, was yelling at the worshipers with a bullhorn...

1. "Jesus hates Muslims"
You know what? Jesus probably facepalmed when he heard that.

Bigotry is such a sad, pitiful thing.

9. How could the people of Prophet Muhammad and Jesus hate each other?
When both of the Prophets came from the same God? Strange.

14. Easy enough.
One group says that Muhammed was just a failed trader with delusions of grandeur.

The other group says that Jesus was a Muslim prophet, but lesser in importance than Muhammed.

It's mostly Muslims and ecumenical Xians who say they have the same god. For Muslims, it's a way of saying that you worship the same god, but Islam's prophet is superior and more faithful--in other words, same software manufacturer, but you really should upgrade to v 3.0. Very conservative ones will say that Xians corrupted their "book."

Some groups that have long lived in Muslim societies have found that submitting and buying into this POV confers at least some measure of protection.

Most others are honest and say that they have different gods. Personally, I think that the Father in the NT is not the God who gave the Law to Moses in the OT.

16. My God in heaven. As a Christian myself,
this makes me physically ill. These people are NOT NOT NOT Christians, I don't care what they call themselves. Jesus wouldn't recognize them as such. He would, however, recognize the Wall Street hucksters as the modern-day equivalents of the money lenders and changers he chased out of the temple and deal with them as such. THOSE are the people these so-called "Christians" should be protesting. Then follow it up with actually doing some good for their fellow man, like feeding the hungry, ministering to the homeless, visiting the sick, comforting the afflicted and afflicting the comfortable.

So I guess you hate all followers of Islam because of 9/11?

24. I'm not judging ALL Christians but you can't say who is, and who isn't a "real" Christian.
I thought only God decides that.

And nice false extrapolation of my point.

31. Well.... Jesus Christ *did* say "Love your neighbor as yourself"
so I think it's reasonable to assume that anyone who is foaming at the mouth waving a sign that says "Jesus hates..... (insert name of group here)" is not a "real" Christian.

23. People can SAY they're anything they want, they can claim
to be anything they want. But it doesn't make it so. Now, Martin Luther King, Jr., was an example of a REAL Christian. The Christians who risked their lives hiding Jews during WWII and who often ended up in concentration camps (such as Corrie Ten Boom) are other examples. I can go on and on. You cannot judge an entire group or religion by the actions of a fringe few. The ignorant RW theocrats who've attempted to hijack Christianity these past few decades are NOT representative of the entirety. They'd like to think they are, but they aren't.

25. But are you the arbiter of who is a "real" Christian? Are you god?
I'm not judging anyone so that's a strawman. I'm simply pointing out that it takes real hubris to believe you have the power to cast anyone in or out of the faith. I thought that was god's job.

I don't know if these people are christian or not. Their ACTIONS are very un-christian.

28. Exactly.
If they believe in Christianity, live their lives according to their belief in Christianity, however flawed, and are acting in accordance to their beliefs, then they are Christians.

But because other Christians have a vested interest in only allowing a positive image of Christianity, anyone who does something they don't agree with is somehow retroactively not a Christian anymore by some miraculous authority vested in them by, um, I don't who. :)

So if every Christian has to agree in order for someone to actually be a Christian, and members of various Christian sects and denominations can't agree on anything, then they certainly can't agree on who the "real Christians" are. So that must mean that there Aren't any actual Christians.

Maybe Everyone is just be pretending?

Either that, or everyone who believes in Christianity, and claims to be a Christian, and lives according to that belief, no matter how flawed their beliefs and actions, really is a Christian.

Those would seem to be the two choices.

30. But, see, they are NOT living their lives as Christians.
If they're so full of such hate and bigotry and if they aren't serving others as Christ commanded and as God expects us to do, then they are NOT living their lives as Christians. Walking into a church doesn't make you a Christian anymore than walking into McDonald's makes you a hamburger. They can SAY they are, but their actions speak otherwise. Actions, and not words, are what counts.

32. Walking into a McDonalds does make you a McDonalds customer though.
So your analogy is flawed.

Your logic still gives you the ability to remove anyone from Christianity who you don't approve of, even if Christianity is all they know.

And if someone else who is a Christian has the same ability, then they can remove YOUR Christianity the same way if they don't approve of something you don't do. Congratulations, now you aren't a Christian either! So then what religion do YOU suddenly belong to?

You have now created a whole large population of professed Christians, worshipping Christianity, attending Christian churches, who are denied the ability to call themselves Christians because of individual people's ego's and the need to protect Christianity from anyone who has flaws.

Apparently, only you, your friends and family, and saints are good enough to be real Christians. And they feel the same way. Everyone is lonely in their own small little isolated group of "Real Christians" surrounded by all those horrible fakers out there.

Yet somehow, Christianity is one of the world's biggest religions. You'd never guess it from all the hand wringing about who is a real Christian and who isn't. :P

27. And yet, if you don't agree with them,
they would insist that you aren't a Christian, and Jesus wouldn't recognize you.

Such is the mess that is Christianity. There apparently are no real Christians, just a whole lot of people all simultaneously claiming that nobody else is a real christian, while somehow a whole lot of stuff somehow manages to get done in the name of Christ anyway.
