I dunno what to think about NYTimes "At Vegans’ Weddings, Beef or Tofu?" re Clinton wedding
Wow, The New York Times sure knows how to write insight into how people should conduct weddings after some issues in the Chelsea Clinton wedding, regarding first interfaith marriage (given that Chelsea's husband=Jewish, and Chelsea=Christian) and now...whether a vegetarian bride should serve meat at the wedding! (At least this story was in the Style section rather than in the A section, but this came up on the general RSS feed if you read the Times online.) i guess that the Times put the interfaith story in section A because religion is a lot more important to most of readers' lives instead of vegetarianism.

But this is the same newspaper that screwed up on more important issues like Iraq's missing WMDs and James O'Keefe's video-editing smear of ACORN.

1. Chelsea Clinton had a mostly vegan reception with a steak option.
Obviously it was to be consistent with her beliefs while also being reasonably in tune with her wedding party.

She's compassionate but reasonable in consideration of her guests. She should be applauded.

8. I agree!
Being considerate of guests is somewhat of a lost art these days. When I invite people over for dinner or a cook out I always check to see if there are things they can't or won't eat.

2. It's more interesting to me than the actual wedding.
If you ask me, none of it should have been covered outside the Style section. I guess even the Times is getting into the tabloid, lifestyles-of-the-rich-and-famous business.

Anyway, I'm vegan and I wouldn't want meat at my wedding. However, some guests will always get freaked out and offended if you don't give them some kind of dead animal, like they're going to die if they don't get bacon-wrapped shrimp and dried up chicken medallions. I say let 'em deal with it, but I can see how some people might not want to upset their Aunt Mabel or whatever. This article is much more interesting to me than the celebrity gawking disguised as news that was the wedding coverage.

4. Hey as long as you're consistent
And think it's just peachy if someone throws a wedding with no vegetarian option because they aren't one.

6. The difference is that omnivores will eat vegan food. Vegans will not eat non-vegan food.
But you knew that.

3. We had chicken, fish, or vegan as the 3 choices at ours.
Northern California, we had a lot of vegans coming.

The fish was sort of a fuck-up, but that's another story.

5. When my wife and I got married, 19 years ago,
it was at our house. The reception began before the ceremony, which was just a five-minute break in the festivities, and took place under the huge acacia tree in the front yard.

The food at the reception included a couple of monster garbage pizzas (supremes) and one monster veggie pizza, plus twelve dozen homemade pork tamales made by my mom and steamed in a giant enamelware pot.

I don't remember who ate what, but everything was gone by the end of the evening.

Good times!

9. Vegetarians in general are selfish clods.
They expect to be served vegetarian meals by their hosts all of the time, but expect their own guests to share their vegetarian meals.
