Republic vs. Democracy - Rule by Law vs. Rule by Majority
A Republic is representative government ruled by law (the Constitution). A democracy is direct government ruled by the majority (mob rule). A Republic recognizes the inalienable rights of individuals while democracies are only concerned with group wants or needs (the public good).

This is a quote from Gary McLeod, Republican candidate for Congressional District 6 of South Carolina

We need to ask Mr. McLeod what his position is on Proposition 8 in California.

The problem with the California Republic, is that it has forgotten what a republic is.

1. The Latest Gay Marriage Rulings in Ca have the Republicans
new found religion on Democracy.

Citng some polls which they say the majority of people
in California were against Gay Marriage. They say this
is why the ban passed. "This court is ignoring the
will of the people". They will scream Tyranny of the
Minority." They are noisy. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Just playing devil's advocate, here.

2. Interesting juxtaposition - because California is trying
To become more of a direct democracy through
The referendum and proposition
Movement.

Gary is right - he might not want to be and
California wastes millions on election
Propositions.

3. Up Is Down...
They love "less government" and "states rights" when they're not in power. Then they fleece the treasury and expand their corporate welfare system they palm off as being "free enterprise". It's a syndicate centered around manipulating language to cover up their true intents...craven power.

4. An observation
If the GOP is this upset by a majority vote being struck down, they should be willing to stop filibustering EVERY bill proposed in the Senate by the majority.

6. Indeed, that's why Republicans can't be taken seriously
They will argue one thing, and in the next beat will argue the opposite.

5. Yeah I get kinda tired of them yelling "It's not a democracy IT'S A REPUBLIC"
Yet they are right. I just wish they wouldn't yell so loud.

But now it's not a republic any more... depending on which way the wind blows. They are Amoral people.

I do remember when the Republicans in California were kinda reasonable people but now they are just crazy. I know several Republicans, that I have worked to get elected to local office, that would never be considered for state wide office. Why? Because they are too damn decent. They actually care about their community.

So it's not that California has forgotten what a republic is... just those central California counties and those weird ones way up north and to the southeast. They are nuts.
