I just wrote a very good LTTE re. illegal immigration
I said it would be very simple to get rid of the 12 million illegals we've got in the US: simply suspend the Constitution so Sheriff Joe can start kicking in doors looking for them, expect the price of produce to double because very few native-born Americans are going to spend the day under the broiling sun picking lettuce for two or three bucks an hour, and raise taxes to 90 percent to pay for it all.

1. One problem with your LTTE. In AZ we grow lettuce in the winter time, not under the broiling sun.

9. AZ isn't the only place that grows lettuce
Nor is it the only place that has illegal aliens picking it, but I understand where you're coming from.

2. The fact that this country wants to 'get rid of 12M illegals'
Edited on Sun Aug-08-10 08:54 PM by babylonsister
who have lived here, worked hard, tried to play by the rules and get citizenship for years (yes, not all of them, but a lot), makes me ill.

This isn't the country I grew up in. Had my relatives 'arrived' in this day and age, I don't know where I'd be living.

4. WOW! Big fat broad brush there; you speak for 12M people?
:eyes:

Research how many people have tried to play by the rules and become citizens before you sound too stupid.

17. So because they couldn't do it legally they should break the
law and come here anyway?

21. Sheesh. This (white people won't do those jobs) OP is the one in which you choose to plant a flag?
Broad brush? Wasn't that the whole point of the OP?

(BTW, I'd hate to see what a really bad LTTE looks like)

15. How are they playing by the rules? If they are here ILLEGALLY
they obviously aren't playing by the rules, they are blatantly disregarding them and then getting pissed when the people who are here legally have the nerve to want them out.

Maybe they should take some of their anger and direct at the people who run their countries into the ground and make them unbearable places to live.

A sense of entitlement to cheap produce is the most grotesque.

10. Remember where I am...
The moran Repukes that infested my beautiful city understand exactly one thing: what's in their hip pocket. Hit them there, which was my intention, and they'll start thinking.

Besides, I was not trying to justify exploiting desperate poor people, but trying to make these idiots understand: running all the illegals out of the United States is going to be very, very expensive--and we ain't got the money, folks. They want the illegals gone? Plan to kiss most of your money and all of your freedom goodbye, whether you want them gone or not.

7. Americans are going to spend the day
under the broiling sun picking lettuce for two or three bucks an hour, and raise taxes to 90 percent to pay for it all. Wake the fuck up!
I am so sick of reading this bullshit.
Ask any construction worker that's lost his job over this shit. Oh yes that's for real. He will tell you the truth. I work for a construction company that has many illegals work for them and they make thousands per week and send it home. They drive better trucks than I do and make more money don't shit yourself. I laugh every time I read shit like this.

to sit at your keyboard and whine about things. I offer you to spend a day with me and I will prove it to you. Come to the Midwest and I will spend the time with you and show you what I am talking about. It's not all about picking produce get in the real world with me.

13. I have been in the real world, sorry...
If you are going to write so Republicans can read, you do NOT write huge diatribes, you hit the little fuckers in the pocketbook and you do it quick, which is exactly what I did.

Now, let's talk illegal immigrant carpenters. That's skilled work, so they charge much more than two dollars an hour. In NC they were getting between $8 and $9 for roofing, for instance, and EVERY roofing company in Cumberland County ran pure-illegal-immigrant work crews. An American can't get work as a roofer down there, and the reason's simple: the roofing companies don't want to pay the various taxes on them. They hire four bilingual Americans to serve as supervisors-cum-Home Depot shoppers, and each American runs a 12-man work crew. Unfortunately, these companies ALSO know IRS accountants don't know how many guys it takes to lay a roof. A company with four employees laid $1 million worth of roof? I think not, but the IRS doesn't know that.

23. You have one valid point
It's true that we've seen increases in undocumented workers in both the construction and drywall industries, where American workers have been pushed out.

But blaming the workers is blaming the victims when U.S. companies actively recruit in Mexico and convert American jobs to ones they intentionally set up for illegal labor. In effect, our government puts up "Keep Out" signs at the border, and our businesses put up "Now Hiring" signs.

So people are enticed to cross the border to make a better life for themselves and their families. They work and live in our communities, often for many years, often paying taxes and paying billions into Social Security--on which they can never collect.

And some want to send them "home". Home? For many, THIS is their home. Not because they are "criminals," but because American businesses have been allowed to flout our laws and reap profits while supporting and fostering the blame-the-victim, anti-immigrant attitudes of the American public.

American workers have more in common with illegal immigrant workers than they do with businesses that exploit ALL labor and actively encourage illegal immigration.

Your anger at the situation is understandable, but your anger at fellow workers is not. It's the business party--the Republican Party--that continues to obstruct real immigration reform, preferring to maintain the status quo while using the politics of fear to inflame bigotry and hatred and misplaced blame.

No, it's not all about "picking lettuce." It's a whole lot more, if you'll only open your eyes.

11. "They drive better trucks than I do." and you know these are "illegals" how?
Do they have a special license plate? How do you know that the drivers of these trucks are "illegal"?

Do explain these seemingly magic powers you have.

12. My husband works in a Union factory, and about half of the
Mexicans he works with are illegals- they admit it! My brother used to work at a Hormel plant, and they also had a lot of illegals working there. These jobs paid at least 10 bucks an hour (10 years ago) and at the Union factory they make 12-14 bucks an hour, plus benefits and four weeks of paid vacation. I know some people will say that it's not much, but in this area the cost of living is cheap so it's not bad. I find it hard to believe that in an area where unemployment is at almost 20% there aren't LEGAL citizens willing to do these jobs.

I'm also tired of reading this bullshit. Who do they think did this work before the illegals came here to do it? Legal citizens!

16. Yep, I must be bigoted for telling the truth.
About half of the people he works with are originally from Mexico and about half of them are here illegally.

My sister in-law is here from Mexico illegally. She is a nice person and I don't have anything against her, but I still think that it's wrong that she chose to come here illegally. If she got deported, the only people I would feel sorry for are her kids because she made a bad choice and would have to live with the consequences of her actions.
