Wahlberg's son attacked by octopus

Last Update: 8/06 8:58 am

The Hollywood actor and his model wife Rhea Durham were on vacation with their four kids, but the trip took a frightening turn at the Sea Life Aquarium in Carlsbad. An aggressive sea creature latched on to Durham, their four-year old son Michael, and the family's tour guide.

Wahlberg recalled the incident during an interview on David Letterman's late night talk show.

He said: "We have a tour guide so she's like, 'You have a special treat today, we'll be able to take you behind the tank and you'll be able to see the octopus...' So this women pulls out this gigantic octopus, the thing latches on to my son's arm. It's got my wife, (it's) wrapped completely around the lady, and another guy's just standing there. They can't get this octopus off.

"My son is freaking out but no sound is coming out of his mouth. So finally we rip the thing off of him. He's got all these suction marks that look like about 30 little hickeys (bruises). The lady can't get out, she's yelling for help... He (the aquarium manager) said it's never been that aggressive."

But as the audience laughed at Wahlberg's dramatic storytelling, Letterman urged the actor to take legal action - and the star admitted he may soon be filing suit.

He said: "We haven't filed yet but if you could recommend a good lawyer... Once the woman who handles the octopus starts freaking out I knew there was a problem. She couldn't even get away from the thing. She had to have help come running in. Once I got my kid out of there I said, 'Let's go!' I left the lady there. That's her problem."

1. What a "hero".
"Once I got my kid out of there I said, 'Let's go!' I left the lady there. That's her problem."

Wonder how he would have reacted on the Titanic?

5. these creatures belong in the ocean, not in a water show! They are traumatized

beyond endurance, the poor dolphins have to undergo over 200 "pats" from assorted children/adults a day, every day, every week, every month, every year.

Try walking around and patting your head over 200 times in one day, every day, for a week.

7. A story told for humorous effect is being taken as gospel truth? On DU? Gasp.
He told this story on a late night talk show with the intent of being funny. Maybe he made up the part about leaving the tour guide. People often embellish real events to make them into better stories. It's called "storytelling."

But isn't much more fun to get worked up into a self-righteous lather over anything, no matter how fucking trivial??

14. That's almost as good as the time a Komodo dragon attacked Sharon Stone's then-hubby
Phil Bronstein, formerly of the SF Chron, is, um, quite the character. He is also renowned (?) for breaking the ankle of a controversial local pol in a fistfight.

http://articles.sfgate.com/2001-06-10/news/17602232_1_komodo-dragon-los-angeles-zoo-komodo-island

Chronicle executive editor Phil Bronstein was attacked by a Komodo dragon at the Los Angeles Zoo yesterday, suffering a serious foot injury.

Bronstein was in stable condition at a Los Angeles area hospital last night after surgery to reattach severed tendons and rebuild the casing of his big toe, which was crushed by the dragon's jaws, said his wife, actress Sharon Stone.

Bronstein and a zookeeper were inside the cage of the dragon, a 10-foot- long rare Indonesian lizard, on a behind-the-scenes tour of the zoo when the creature attacked.

16. He is a terrible actor
No charisma, no charm, no skill. Whenever I see his name in a movie preview I avoid the movie. Luckily, all the movies he usually is in look like they suck to me anyway.

referring to Letterman's recent incident with being blackmailed. I like Wahlberg, too.

It seems like the guy was trying to tell a funny story. Or telling a story about something that wasn't funny, in a funny way. Give him a break, Jesus.
