I need rebuttal info. She is livid and I can't argue without knowing the facts. This article sounds as though it is made to incite anger among the RWrs.

2. It's a bunch of b.s. from the American Family Assn-they
always distort the truth.

11. Oh, OK. I saw the American Family and thought it was the insurance company.
That makes sense now. I can't keep track of all these whacko organizations anymore...way too many of them.

Thanks for the info.

I assume it's a newsletter from her insurance company. Anyone know the author?

8. No need to rebut
Just ask her why she thinks she can trust her source over, for instance, local teachers and her own research on federal web pages.

"You say you HAVEN'T personally looked up the program to find out the details? You just took some rabble-rouser's word for it?"

Here's the facts: The story is bullshit. Your mission is to make her feel like a fool for NOT following up. (And you don't have to mock her, either. Simply realizing how she jumped to reinforce her own bigotry should do the job.)

After that, a brief mention of the pernicious trend among Christians of "bearing false witness".

13. No, I didn't look up the program, as I wasn't sure what/where to find it.
I could tell after only a few words that it was written to incite their following, but I wanted to read the actual grant/bill/program...whatever they called it...for myself to see how they twisted the words.

It doesn't do any good to argue if you don't have the facts. That is why I asked on DU.

17. That's HER job, too
You don't need to know what the bullshit smells like to know it's bullshit. But you CAN ask your adversary what it smells like.

Wingnuts NEVER take the time to educate themselves about what they believe. (Sad to say it isn't too common on OUR side, either.)

When you make them aware that they are talking through parts of their body intended for other functions, the Humiliation Response usually kicks in immediately.

Sometimes you just need to get into the muck and use facts, but I always try to cut through the outer layer of nonsense first. It often brings a wingnut right back to Earth.

9. By your friend's logic
She is also funding "gay" fire service and "gay" police service, since neither the fire department nor the police department are going to run through a list of questions in an emergency to decide whether you're "worthy" of receiving public services. If this is truly something for her to get livid about, she must be living a very good life indeed. Suggest that she find a hobby or volunteer some time in her community to help out folks less fortunate than her.

12. Here is the source.
http://www.acf.hhs.gov/grants/open/foa/view/HHS-2010-ACF-ACYF-PREP-0125

This is the DHHS announcing the grant, including attachment to the full pdf detailing what they want for their money.

All it says is that when designing a sex-ed program to consider the needs of the non-heterosexual audience - make sure they are not left out or even stigmatized. There is not one piece of request in that grant announcement that states that the program must be designed to "indoctrinate school children in the homosexual lifestyle" (from the "news article", not the source).

That article from "OneNewsNow.com" is a piece of fiction. Look at the author's name. Charlie Butts. I don't know the guy, but I tell you attaching his name to this article is rather "unfortunate".

this is all about providing funding for sex education & pregnancy prevention. Doesn't require "indoctrination" of our youth
