Hartmann cites DU, calls for Dean to replace Gibbs
Edited on Wed Aug-11-10 11:38 AM by Doctor_J

David Sirota was on at noon, said Bennett would not have won CO primary if he hadn't outspent Romanoff 5-1. Says this is ominous for November since Repukes will probably outspend Dems by a lot. Romanoff made a good showing (more than 40%) but big money won the day, and probably will in the GE's.

Warning: Thom does almost all of his own ads, and it gets really annoying hearing him pitch slime like Lifelock. Good slate for today though.

1. Dean is too emotional to be a good press secretary.
Gibbs let his emotions get the better of him, that was his problem.

8. A little emotion wouldn't be bad
as long as it was aimed at the right, not the left.

2. I don't know the most recent poll out on this race showed Bennett up by 6-points
while Romanoff was running even. The GOP is in tatters in CO, so I think Dems have a good chance to win with either Bennett or Romanoff had he won the primary. Also, turnout in the primary was very good, so voters were engaged.

4. Not likely, Dean is far too prone to speak his own mind.
He's a great politician, but a lousy mouthpiece.

9. Dean is not a DLC "new" Democrat lackey. He would not like to be the face of Obama.

19. Regardless of whether that's true or not...
My point is that Dean would only be comfortable and/or good at speaking for himself, and no other.

5. Dean is DLC - at least according to some DUers - in fact a traitor
so it seems Gibbs is right - some will never be happy

7. that doesn't make any sense
it appears to be something Hartmann is saying to appeal to Dean supporters, but why would a Dean supporter want Dean to serve as Obama's spokesman?

14. Dean supporters want Dean's influence in the White House.

See this thread:

Personally I would not want him to be spokesman. So, all liberals do not agree on everything. Which is no surprise to anyone.

16. Yeah, but the Liberal media (tm) took care of that.
Right after he said he wanted to break up the giant corporate media machine.

15. you know, Dean has many 'moderate' or 'centrist' leanings
I doubt he'd satisfy Gibb's critics any more over time.

24. Being supportive of gun rights in a state like Vermont...
Edited on Wed Aug-11-10 01:21 PM by cascadiance
hardly qualifies for being "moderate"/"centrist" which the DLC has HIJACKED many in to believing they are, when they are more CORPORATIST and disguising themselves as "moderate" so that they can pick and choose which issues they support or don't support to do the bidding of their corporate masters.

Paul Hackett is another example of someone who ran on REAL moderate positions like gun ownership, etc. when he ran for congress but was still a populist rather than a corporatist at heart. That was what lined up the so-called "moderates" (aka CORPORATISTS DLC) against him. Because they knew that a real moderate as a populist in the Democratic Party would expose them for what they are.

That is also why the DLC has tried to minimize Dean too. Dean isn't doctrinaire about his support of "liberal" issues, but I do believe that he speaks more for people power than corporate power. THAT is the difference. And I won't stand by to see others insinuate otherwise!

Now on the topic? I think Dean wouldn't want to put himself in a position to be a mouthpiece for an administration that has shunned him (put him out of the DNC and didn't put him on the cabinet), and shunned what he's tried to speak out on.

The only way Howard Dean should accept a position in Obama's administration is to replace Rahm (which perhaps might happen after November when Rahm is supposed to step down?). If Obama can come to him and say that he wants to "change direction", and provides ample reasons to believe that he is sincere about this, and a good explanation why he followed the DLC playbook so heavily for so long when it was obviously not the "change" that most people supporting him wanted, then perhaps Dean might be well suited to help facilitate Obama's "change" then.

I'm still not sure whether I'd trust Obama after his DLC leanings for so long now, but perhaps there's a good inside explanation for what he's done that might make Dean comfortable. I actually hope that there is, and that an honest change can be made so that we can support him for the last two years of this term. I'd rather support an Obama administration that has returned to supporting the grass root Democratic Party constituency, than have to fight one that continues to work against what we voted him in to do, despite what Gibbs tries to say we "like" to do.

Not hardly.

That is the wing they are doing their darndest to spin off into the farthest reaches of the Gulag where we can sit around all day dreaming about single payer health and whirled peas while we wait for our weekly urine test.
