Where's the scofflaw who refused to obey the directions of the flight attendant?
Where's the selfish person who bulled ahead of procedure, stood up and started messing around in the overhead compartment before the plane had come to a complete stop? And cursed out the flight attendant who was just trying to do his job?

Why isn't the media crawling all over him/her?

Just who started the whole brouhaha anyway?

Some of us don't pay attention to the media and require a tad more context.

4. Oh.. I forgot to contextualize for those who have pulled the plug

and wonder why they don't know what you're talking about.

There was this flight attendant, see, who had had enough of being mistreated, cursed out the passenger who cursed at him, grabbed a couple of beers and hit the evacuation chute out onto the tarmac at JFK....

I hope you don't ever get on these series of tubes to bitch about anything media related.

(edit for spell check.. hate to undermine my message for the myopic)

5. I don't pay attention to the media because I value my health..
I "pulled the plug" long ago when I realized that every time I paid attention to the media my frustration level and blood pressure would soar.

It's really amazing how not listening to professional instigators will improve your equanimity.

Actually I read about the story here on DU but didn't connect it to your post since it's been a day or two and I've been much more busy than usual.

11. Ignorance is bliss?
I've gone "unplugged" a few times in my life. Strangely, the info filters through anyway. Does make it easier to ignore and pretend it isn't happening.

12. I suspect I'm as well informed as most DUers about things that are truly important..
In other words, far more so than the average American.

Given that I can read at least four times as fast as even the fastest talker can speak I suspect I get more information per minute spent than those who pay attention to the media. I've gotten to the point I resist even watching videos because the information flow feels like molasses in January in Wasilla compared to reading.

17. I do prefer transcripts
I read the transcripts of interviews about 2 - 3 times faster than the interview itself. And I wish some times I could get a newspaper that didn't insist on putting synopses in every sentence. You know:

"Henry Kissinger, former secretary of State Under Nixon and nobel Peace Prize Winner, visited Paris yesterday, where several peace treaties have been signed including with North Vietnam......"

Why can't they just say that Kissinger went to Paris and get on with it?

20. I suspect it's because so many Americans are so ignorant of history..
You and I know who Kissinger is but I guarantee my daughter and son in law (both 30) don't.

They are far from stupid, just ignorant of history.

23. Then look it up
I read things and don't know who they are, or their significance, so I look it up. In this day in age its stupid easy. But CONSTANTLY burying every sentence and story with this expansion makes the stories laborious to read, and distracting too. If nothing else, that's what side bars are for.

6. the flight attendant had cuts and a huge bruise on his head
So why hasn't the cow that hit him in the head with her luggage been arrested?

I've been asking this since it happened -- why wasn't she arrested?

14. They said she was argumentative before the flight took off
And fought about having her huge bag allowed in the overhead. During this scuffle, the FA was slammed in the head by said huge bag. She was pissed because she was made to gate check it. Then, when they landed, she was still all pissy and stood up and refused to sit and stay buckled.

I cannot believe he was in Riker's. He shouldn't have deployed the chute, but he should just be fired and have that eb the end of it.

8. That's what I've been wondering
This person should at least be charged with assault. Plus, she disobeyed the directions of the flight attendant, which I believe is now against FAA regs, and could be facing charges over that too. Shouldn't be too hard for the airline and law enforcement to find out this person's name and address of record, so where's her perp walk?

She also caused the FA to have a rather large bruise on his head from her bag whacking him before the flight took off.

The humorous part of the story fades when I think of being on the flight with small children. SAFETY FIRST.

24. There may be more to the story
Folk hero and former flight attendant Steven Slater was not a victim, but the aggressor in an ugly confrontation that led to his de-planing meltdown, according to new reports.
