What's the deal with Obama and Social Security?
Pretty well-written, albeit frightening column about President Obama's willingness to cut Social Security:

America's Defunct Political System -- Social Security-HUFFINGTON POST. Social Security is on the rack. The man about to turn the screws is Barack Obama. This should not be a surprise. The indictment of Social Security began many months ago when Obama cited 'entitlement' programs as a prime source of fiscal imbalance. Then, this past winter he sent to Congress a proposal that would have established a special commission mandated to make recommendations on so-called 'reform' of Social Security and Medicare that the legislature would be required to vote up or down as a package. This in the midst of the debate on health care. Congressional leaders demurred. Obama responded almost immediately by creating just such a commission stacked with avowed foes of keeping Social Security as we have known it. When that commission offers its predictable dire forecast to justify a drastic scaling back of the program, Obama will back it. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/michael-brenner/americas-defunct-politica_b_678649.html

Also, a good radio interview about Social Security's longterm finances: http://www.ncpssm.org/video/max_kpfa_8102010.mp3

1. How can we stop this from happening?

They are going to vote on this during the Lame Duck Session in November.

Call, write, fax? They dont care. The Lame Ducks are already moving into their new offices in the Goldman Sachs building.

Shame on Mr. Obama for unleashing this on the people. I wish I knew how to stop it?

2. That's why it's scheduled for lame duck time. That's when DADT will be "handled" too, IMO. n/t
