If I were Obama
I would announce an FDR type stimulus by Executive Order and fuck up the ReTHUGS from here to neverneverland.

I would simply say the American people are suffering and I cannot allow that under my watch. Fuck all Blue dogs who don't like it.

Dean Baker is correct.

1. Fuck the Constitution on the way out the door, too.
Edited on Thu Aug-12-10 12:22 PM by Davis_X_Machina
Roosevelt didn't do it when unemployment was 3x what it is today. And Bush's abuse of executive power was one of the things that made people on these boards the most angry.

Too damn many people on DU left the polling booth in '08 saying to themselves "Now that's done. We've got our Bush. Son of a bitch better start breaking shit." If you want to start breaking shit, you don't do it at the ballot box. You don't especially elect a guy who told you, up front, that the balance of powers was out of balance.

We elected a president, not a king.

4. That's not what I've seen. I've seen our grassroots groups struggle to push the President...
towards better policies to help people and get rebuffed time and again. There is no denying it. The President, himself, went on Fox and said he'd beat back all sorts of proposals from the left. He could more accurately have said he'd beat back most proposals from the left, IMO. However, that tells us 2 things:

1) The left has not been sitting on the sidelines waiting for 'our king' to act or there would have been no proposals for him to beat back.
2) He's not much interested in what the left wants.

15. I know but democracy
shouldn't mean the right to deprive citizens from their right to work or to sabotage the system to achieve power. The neo-cons did this across the globe and are now trying it in American. I remember when they stated publicly that they wanted him to fail and would do everything to make him fail. It's time to fight back.

2. That's what I think too, and something like that is what I thought I voted for... to date, IMO,
we're just using mostly the same old tricks to try to prop up a failed capitalistic economic system. When I wanted change, I wanted major change, not adjustments to the ban-aids.

3. Buy a gun and start training.
What you want is called 'a revolution'.

You can't order an ice-cream soda and send it back to the kitchen because it's not hot.

6. If I were Obama, I would announce that I was wrong on too many key issues,
fire most of my cabinet, replace them with liberals, and start working for and establishing helpful policies.

8. Would a resignation replace the entire cabinet, and
cause the nation to take a hard turn to the left?

10. It ought to...why wouldn't it?
Flush out those banksters and DLC hacks.

Maybe get Warren Mosler in at Treasury.

11. We'd get Biden.
Is he going to appoint a liberal cabinet, and be fundamentally different?

12. No...no...
Biden resigns too. The Senate picks a new vice-president, a real liberal like Grayson, Weiner, Kucinich.

They'll sail through confirmation and take over, appointing a new cabinet in the process. Cabinet officials serve at the President's pleasure -- it goes without saying they'd go too.

Or Biden can simultaneously resign. With both top spots empty the Speaker goes into the White House by default. The House Democratic caucus can choose a new Speaker for one day, a progressive like Defazio, or Frank, or Jackson-Lee, and then re-choose Pelosi if that's their fancy after the new President goes in.

I'm not sure the country can survive having a President who's announced he was wrong on too many key issues.

9. K&R
"...American people are suffering..."

That's a fact. He should say it seven times a week, and then get that shit started.

At this point he's said he knows the Repubs are just blocking him, so if he doesn't push ahead and start working without the Pukes, he's gonna look real, real bad.

He'll look to everyone Like just another Puke, only carrying around a useless Dem barf-bag.

14. And that's what it's going to look like to people out in the greater world
outside of the internet, very soon.

Repub obstructionism is real and complete, and demands more action to get things done. If he wants to.

President Obama should listen more to his base, rather than Rahm, and the fruitless endeavor of working to appease and out-maneuver the Repubs.

Hell, He should listen to the candidate Obama. That's who we worked for and elected into office.

bad advisers IMO. He seems blindfolded.

17. Obama only has a few million dollars in the bank
Since only Congress can appropriate/authorize funds the unilateral Obama stimulus would be kind of limited.

But I applaud your general desire for urgency and vigor.
