BREAKING Prop 8: Walker says no stay on gay marriage
Edited on Thu Aug-12-10 02:25 PM by steve2470
http://www.365gay.com/news/breaking-prop-8-walker-says-no-stay-on-gay-marriage/

Just moments ago, Judge Vaughn Walker issued a decision that there denied an extension on the stay on gay marriages in California.

This means that gay couples in California may get married immediately.

Proposition 8, voted in by the electorate in November 2008, limited marriage to opposite sex couples in California. The decision on the stay comes after last week’s historic decision denying the constitutionality of Prop 8 in California.

In his decision, Walker wrote: “Plaintiffs seek to have the state recognize their committed relationships, and plaintiffs’ relationships are consistent with the core of the history, tradition and practice of marriage in the United States.”

57. Gay couples in California can NOT get married immediately
Judge Walker's stay does not expire until August 18th.
And the 9th Circuit can order another 'stay' before then.

Edited on Fri Aug-13-10 01:11 AM by ProudDad
must prove to the 9th Circuit before next Wednesday that they will personally be "irreparably harmed" by gay folk getting married...

This is a proposition that Judge Walker has gone to great lengths to make quite difficult to prove...

I hope for the best over the next 6 days...

May next week be the continuation of the beginning of the end of this pernicious form of bigotry!
