We've just got to have Obama II.... a second term
It's simply a matter of national survival for many of us...those of us whose lives have been nearly destroyed by Bush II.

It is especially critical for Obama to move to a fuller implementation of Roosevelt's Four Freedoms.

That means some measure of economic security and health care insurance for all.

That is all I want to say at this time.

2. it may not happen without the support of the groups that brought us Obama I
minorities, workers and the young.

and a lot of those people are feeling pretty alienated right now.

16. I'm not sure about that, unless I'm reading the
PPP latest poll incorrectly: Obama approval for Hispanics 60%, AA 90%, 18-29years at 56% tanks with those 30-45 at 38%, increases a little 65 and older to 44%, and more so with those 46-65 at 50%.

http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/PPP_Release_National_811.pdf Pages 9 & 10.

I'm not really good with graphs and numbers so please correct me if I'm wrong, because to me even the chart on enthusiasm looks like we may be closing the gap http://publicpolicypolling.blogspot.com/

4. If too many Democrats stay home in a snit, Republicans will gladly elect the next President.
The elected are chosen and govern as a result of those who bother to actually vote. It may seem all noble and virtuous to withhold a vote or to vote for a 3rd party candidate in protest, one who has no chance to win, but in reality that is just a step better than those who write-in "Mickey Mouse".

If only those elected to govern would actually remember remember this.

10. That's what primaries are for and a motivated group can have a big impact in a primary.
The voter turnout for primaries is pretty abysmal as a whole and if in a given congressional district or even a state a determined and dedicated group of Liberal/Progressive voters who actually get out and support their candidate in the primary could very well elect that person.

14. The fact is....
...there were a lot of groups who elected this current crop of Dems (including Obama). They voted in primaries and they voted in the general election. And they've seen many of their interests out and out betrayed.

I don't even just mean "Oh, this bill wasn't liberal enough for them." or "Oh they had to settle for 50% of what they wanted."

I mean seen their interests put on the chopping block in the spirit of "bipartisanship". I mean those interest being traded away for the ones of people who did not and will never vote for Dems. I mean seeing themselves and their groups vilified or mocked.

That's what gets missed a lot on here. Is that most of the people really aren't saying "I want it all and I want it now!!!!". Some might be, but it's not a majority. The majority of those expressing dissatisfaction and saying "Why the fuck should I bother." are ones who saw their support, and their votes, and their money, and their hard work be paid off with being thrown overboard to score cheap political points. Everyone from women (the whole Stupak debacle), unions, teachers, gays, etc. I'm not a member of any one of those groups but I support them all and most I know personally in those groups are ready to just say "Fuck you, find your votes elsewhere." and I can't say I much blame them. "The other guy will be worse." is a shitty political motivator but at this point it really seems like it's all our party has to offer.

22. Excellent Post!
It is a sad state of affairs when members of our own party abandon the core principles that have made us The Party Of The People.

7. Let me say this
I changed my voter registration to independent to vote a repuke on the ticket here - I know, stop, read further, this republican is honest and Arpio does not like him. After that, I will vote a straight dem ticket. No way am I staying home, no way am I voting for a republican or another party. I am a dem and always will be one. Dems have my vote but sorry Dems I have no money to give.

Is he inclined? Maybe he thinks he's addressing them?

1.Freedom of speech and expression
2.Freedom of religion
3.Freedom from want
4.Freedom from fear

15. Do we need Obama the candidate or Obama the compromised President? Who said he wanted to
move to a fuller implementation of Roosevelt's Four Freedoms?

I will bet you money it wants President Obama.

17. I'm certainly going to work to see that happen
But I warn the Obama administration that re-election shouldn't be seen as validation or vindication. It's simply my preference of you over whatever gargoyle the Republicans run against you. I'm still expecting you to govern like the Democrats talk, and that you will provide leadership, even on difficult issues that enjoy 70% approval ratings.

18. I disagree. We need a liberal Democrat that can actually lead instead
of one that starts every critical issue with a compromise that's right of center forcing the end result to be way right of center.

20. Hmm so I'm supposed to support a president who is attacking me and my profession for four more years
Four more years of this shit, unable to get a job in my chosen field of public education because Obama is hellbent on destroying it.

You know, we laugh at conservatives when they continue to vote against their own self interests. Why should we follow this example with Obama?
