Embrace the left, Mr. President...
It is so discouraging that this President and his advisers do not see the political gains from embracing the base. Not only would it strengthen the Democrats in the next election, it would tend to weaken and demoralize the conservatives and the tea-baggers. It is a double win. The left are the only ones in the Party that are capable of fighting the radical Republicans and the tea-baggers. They have to be fought on their own terms.

It is sad to watch this White House and the Administration continue to trudge down the wrong road. They are not strengthening the Party - they are making it weaker. They need to gather their forces to fight a strong enemy. They cannot win by compromising with them.

The left, the base, is the key to victory. You throw them under the bus at your own risk. It is a foolish move. Embrace the base and watch the Democratic Party grow in strength. They put Obama in the White House, whether he knows it or not, and they can throw him out. They cannot be taken for granted. If they want to see the enthusiasm gap closed, they need to adapt a new strategy. If they want to see the President's polls go up, the key is with the progressives of his own Party. It is wrong-headed to believe that the base only weakens the Party and drives away the independent voters. The Elizabeth Warren appointment will say volumes about where we are going.

1. Nothing foolish about it. They're in politics to win financially after leaving office.
So they couldn't care less about winning or losing politically.

4. If they had embraced policies of the left early on, our economy would be in much better shape now...
and no one would be worrying about the midterm elections. People really did not expect miracles. Some progress felt in the working/middle classes would have been sufficient. Instead, we're left trying to convince people whose lives have been ruined and those who are still teetering on the edge that things are better because GDP is up?

7. Could he not make a recess appointment?
What Democrats, besides Dodd, are against her?? Aren't some Repubs supportive of her also?
