Pawlenty at bottom of CNN presidential poll
Gov. Tim Pawlenty’s ambitious travel schedule hasn’t quite panned out yet for the possible presidential contender. In a CNN poll (pdf), Pawlenty placed near the bottom of a large pool of potential Republican nominees; he was tied for sixth out of eight names floated by the cable news network.

Mitt Romney got the top spot with 21 percent of Republicans supporting him. Sarah Palin came in second with 18 percent and Newt Gingrich was third with 15 percent.

Rounding out the rest of the contenders: Mike Huckabee at 14 percent, Ron Paul with 10 percent, Haley Barbour, Mike Pence and Pawlenty tied at 3 percent and Rick Santorum with 2 percent.

1. Thank goodness for that. I know Republicans are craven and shameless, but I think it's funny that
his craven and shameless attempts to appeal to the very worst of the Republican party are failing. Instead of embracing the very best of the Minnesota IR tradition (which, of course, he never did), his transparent pandering only reveals what a small-time poser he really is.

2. Well, sheesh, he's only what -- 14 or 15 years old?
They should at least wait till he's an adult before including him in polls like this.

That's the initial impression I had of Tim Pawlenty -- that he was a little kid. He doesn't look very much like a grown-up to me. He often doesn't act like one either, which I guess is prevalent among Republicans generally and Republican presidential candidates especially.

But Tim Pawlenty sounds like the name of a 1950s paperboy, wheeling through the neighborhood on his bike, delivering the afternoon Gazette.

4. In my lurkings over at freeperville
Even they don't think much of him. Sometimes you need to do the "get to know me" run before you can take a real stab at grabbing a major party's nomination, and the best time to do that is when the other party is more likely than usual to be re-elected. Edwards did that in 2004, trying to get some exposure for 2008.

5. Hi, customerserviceguy. Yep. Tim seems a bit
wet behind the ears.

He could use a little high-profile community meetings!

6. He was naive enough to think that having MN host the Rethug convention
was all that was needed to get credentials from them to be a possible front runner.

8. Yes. I remember thinking that it might mean
Pawlenty would get the veep nod.

He spend a lot less money on clothes than Palin, but he isn't much brighter!

What an ugly convention that was there in St. Paul. During Palin's address, especially -- the delegates were hooting for her and stomping their feet with every snide comment she made about "community organizers," etc. Very creepy.
