We're sorry...

... but your computer or network may be sending automated queries. To protect our users, we can't process your request right now.
*******************************************

Just happened to me.
***************************************************

on edit....we have found the common denominator is Firefox.
Mr. d. had looked up the word for me on Google on his Linux, but was on Opera browser, which I did not know till now.
He just tried it again on Firefox and got the error message.

so, we CAN access google Search on non-firefox browser. Interesting.
And I can access my gmail with no problem.

ok..we can use another search engine.

For clarification....we never use Explorer, and 3 machines are recent Linux OS.

6. Interesting.
Of the 4 computers in this house, all of which are networked, 2 ( Linux ) can get into google
and 2 ( one Windows and one Linux ) can't.
Things that make you go hmmmmm.

7. Sorry if _____ happens to people that do that.
Get over it.

always disliked that phrase.

'Get over it' That pisses me off big time.

That statement is asking someone to accept something, without regard for just balancing of what is wrong, or teaching why something should be some way. It does steam me up.

It is like the authoritarian 'no'.

9. It's your browser. Stop using Internet Exploiter (Explorer, whatever) and it'll be fixed.
Microsoft sucks, btw, if you hadn't heard.

All browsers are Firefox.
3 machines are Linux, one is Windows XP but rarely on line.

2 of the machines can get google search.
the Windows macine and one Linux get the funny message.
We are all networked and all on same ISP.

Weird, huh?

14. What version and have you been doing the updates?
or is it automated?
Mine will do that and I can't access anything at all.
We are running Firefox 3.5.11. mostly we have no problem, but we have pretty strong security. My partner is a software developer and network sec specialist. Some times it will do that when update is download and you have to restart or it acts up.

11. Do you have good antivirus software, fully updated, and frequent scanning
of your hard drives? You may be used as a point that denial-of-service attacks are coming from, and you may not know it.

13. I would roll back to an older version of Firefox
Maybe snag some anti-spyware programs and scan for browser hijacks.

17. Do you have any extensions installed in Firefox that make changes to/customize Google pages?..
I started having problems with Google Maps after I installed the last FF update (3.6.8); the map page would go into a perpetual reload loop and there was no way to stop it. It turned out to be a conflict of some sort with an extension I use called 'OptimizeGoogle'. Once I disabled that extension, things went back to normal.

I did not have the problem you're describing with the search page but I thought I'd mention it.

18. Ha!!! Solved the mystery.
Reset the router and modem ( turned it off and back on).

I read via another search engine that Google does this once in awhile and the router trick resets everything which makes Google happy.

However, I really should find another search engine anyhow, given Google/Verizon's plans for our intertubes.
