I expect genius and magic
Positive change in America is difficult.

Gravity is America leans hard right.

For Dems to advance requires a series of evil disasters that would provoke a coup in a less stable democracy.

(I usually takes something like Watergate/Vietnam or Iraq/Economic Collapse just to get a Dem in the WH.)

For pugs to advance requires merely an economy scraping barely over the recession line and a video of some swarthy guy stealing a candy bar.

It really is Difficult here.

But I cannot abide hearing that difficulty cited as an excuse for fecklessness and hypocrisy.

Barack Obama was chosen from millions to do a job that a fuck of a lot of people would like to have.

"Could have been worse" is not adequate.

1. There is no magic in the real world
So none of the millions you speak of, could have done any better.

7. The difficulty is obstructionist US Senators.

Certainly neither Obama nor Congressional Dems are perfect. What has been accomplished is far short of adequate measured against the totality of needs on a variety of fronts from sustenance and shelter to rights and justice, but tiz important to recognize the source of obstruction.

9. I agree with the way the argument was set up. But the conclusion was simplistic.

If it takes a disaster for Dems to get elected, then why would the OP assume that because a dem did get in following the bushco disaster, that necessarily means that America was ready to accept "liberalism" as a governing concept? That's the simplistic part. I don't believe that is why Obama and the Dems were elected. I believe they were elected to punish the republicans for the way they governed, not for their policies and platform. Americans still do not "get it" about the republicans as evidenced by the polls citing the repubs are posed to gain seats this fall. I don't know what it will take for them to get it.
