We should be pouring money into Pakistan now, helping them with the flood.
We can take it from the money we're wasting in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Winning hearts and minds is the only way we'll get anywhere in that region.

2. Agreed, but those pesky floods
are so untimely, what with our preparations to take on Iran, we just won't find the time to
help Pakistan in a most appropriate way...Sorry kids, maybe next time.

4. We are
We've taken supplies and troops from Afghanistan, and from a ship in the area. We've helicoptered out thousands of people. If we put too much more military in there, we'll be accused of a coup the way were in Haiti.

12. It's a different queue. I'm suggesting that this is a better way to spend the money
we've been pouring into Afghanistan and Iraq -- it will advance the political goal of reducing terrorism (which the military can't accomplish).

In Haiti the goal would be humanitarian. That's a different "queue."

8. that's my concern
dumbya gave something like $40 million to afghanistan and its corrupt mullah omar to help the farmers transition to farming something besides opium

three or four weeks later, the money came back to us in the form of 19 hijackers

i am v. uncomfortable w. giving money to pakistan, which is not even a particularly poor nation, compared to haiti or afghanistan, there are pretty well documented cases of guys there in high places that support the taliban, like the nuclear scientist who was handing over nuclear information to the taliban (fortunately the taliban is too butt ignorant to use the secrets)

i am not a person to discourage giving to flood victims but i'm really not comfortable with "pouring" money on pakistan, they were supposedly our ally for many years in the cold war, but it seems to me that they've basically always "played" us for fools

if i could be sure a displaced person was getting the money, i'd be giving in a heartbeat

i will donate thru doctors w.out borders because they're there on the ground but i'm uncomfortable giving thru gov't aid because i believe the politicians will get that

i have no idea how my concerns can be addressed (or if they should be addressed, i could be completely wrong)

11. Fine. I mean assistance, which does cost money even if we're sending food, etc.

9. Over the years...
we have given billions to Pakistan(and other countries)and not a dime of that money went into infrastructure for the people of those countries. Time for the rest of the world to equal our record since the end of WWII.

We have problems of our own that we are doing very little about.
