Turns out gender pay disparity is the bedrock of stable relationships after all!

"Baffled by how Jesse James could have cheated on his superstar wife, Sandra Bullock ? Or why Eric Benet stepped out on Halle Berry (Halle Berry!)?

A new study may help explain it. Men who earn significantly less than their female partners, or who earn nothing, are far more likely to cheat than those in relationships where incomes are more or less equal, the study found."

Isn't it funny how closely this study mirrors actual statistical pay disparity (remember that whole $0.77 on the dollar bit)?

Of course, the article doesn't question why this is the case - it doesn't seem to enter into the author's mind that money = power and some men may just be sick of not automatically having it all the time.

1. those that are richer than their wives do it all the time
and with impunity it seems.

The fact that the woman has more money makes it easier for HER to walk.

7. Yes, and we DO
Richer men audition trophy wives. Richer women just get sick of the whole thing and leave.

6. It wasn't - it's just convenient that the study showed that successful relationships usually have a
25% difference in pay favoring the man.

11. For that to make any sense the couple would need to have identical jobs.

With identical time on the job etc.

Your injecting something that has nothing to do with the story.

4. not baffled at all--some people are just cheats, pure and simple.
so what is the author saying-- women should never earn more than the men in their lives? how convenient to have such a study just as the reichwing seems to be gearing up for a return to the good ole days--"when men were really men and women knew their place"

9. Some people just shouldn't be monogamous is all
Don't know why everyone thinks they need to pair bond forever. It's just not in every persons makeup.

8. It's a maturity thing.
I've dated women who were more successful then me. Didn't bother me.

People need to mature and try to break away from some of society's expectations of them.

social respect?

NO problems with this in mixed sex marriages - the woman gets the lesser part because she is considered a lesser being...It's in the bible - ask god!

14. And Water is Wet. (NSS)
Did we really need a study to tell us this?

Considering the degree to which men associate their paycheck with their masculinity. Not surprising many feel Emasculated by a higher earning spouse. Not there are not other ways for him to feel masculine. But all things being equal a low/no income man would be more susceptible to feeling of inadequacy.
