Omaha’s “Cozy” House Race: More Questions Than Answers (Terry R-Ne caught with female lobbyist)

By Joe Jordan on July 30, 2010

Under the category “Sex Sells” the Omaha race for Congress is gaining national attention and shining a local spotlight on lobbying and influence peddling on both sides of the aisle.

While Congressman Lee Terry (R) is caught up in a Capitol Hill firestorm over female lobbyists, Terry’s Democratic challenger, State Senator Tom White, is pushing Terry for more answers. But White’s push also raises questions for White.

Terry’s name surfaced in a New York Post column which quoted Terry asking a woman lobbyist at the Capitol Hill Club, ”Why did you get me so drunk?” Terry denies making the comment and has issued a statement calling the report “repulsive and inaccurate garbage.”

White, who claims Terry has a history of “cozying up” to influence peddlers, wants Terry to disclose several pieces of information (see below), including any meetings, day or night, Terry has had with lobbyists.

Asked by Nebraska Watchdog if White would release the same information, White’s campaign manager Ian Russell, said “We’ll be more than happy to release it, as soon as Terry does.”

Terry’s campaign is not commenting on White’s request.

Meanwhile White’s campaign argues that Terry was voting to give “Wall Street bankers a taxpayer-funded-bail-out” at the same time Terry was picking up more than half of his campaign contributions, 56 percent in this election, from high powered special interest groups.
