Woman Kicked Out of Cafe for Public Breast Feeding Sues
Edited on Wed Aug-18-10 09:35 AM by Renew Deal
A woman who was kicked out of Midtown's (NY) Lily O'Brien's Chocolate Cafe for breast feeding in public is suing the restaurant for "severe emotional distress and loss of dignity," reports the Post. Apparently, when Julia Acevedo Taylor and her friend began breast feeding at the cafe a manager (since fired) told them to stop. When they wouldn't (because it's illegal to ask someone to stop breast feeding in public?), the manager asked them to leave and never come back. Taylor says she was so traumatized by the incident that she hasn't been able to whip out her breasts in restaurants and cafe since!

The best part: there's now a sticker on the door that reads, "Breast-feeding welcome."

1. So then, I can bring my nursing doggy girl and pups with me?

(Kidding... she's eleven, spayed, and as much as I wish she could have pups--not gonna happen)

6. Oh, get over yourself... I'm waxing sarcastic at the stupid owner
who, after insulting this woman for doing something perfectly natural, thinks he can get himself out of deep kimchee by posting a sign welcoming breast feeding.

Get over yourself.

13. yes... fortunately, they don't usually last long...
They have a way of self-imploding and the mods are usually right there to do "granite marker" clean up... ;)

5. I doubt she said that.
That really sounds like a thoughtless writer, and an editor who who should have known better. :(

4. I'm glad the cafe fired that manager and put that sticker on the door.
I hope they really will welcome moms who are breast-feeding.

9. That sticker rocks. I predict a larger clientele just for the new tolerance.
Good for them. Sorry for the woman who went through it, I hope she doesn't continue to let it bother her.

14. It should be illegal to ask someone to stop breastfeeding in public.
I hope she wins.
