Can we celebrate for five minutes something positive or
do we need to throw in negative immediately. We have 50,000 combat troops leaving Iraq and I for one is celebrating. It heartwarming to watch our troops leaving in Iraq. I am so happy for them.

2. No one's stopping you
from celebrating. Go ahead and ROCK OUT! :bounce:

You can only control what you do. So stop worrying about the negatives and party. Truth is, in any situation, you're going to have the pos and the negs. That's just the way life is.

If you go back a few hours you will see one person posted about their horror we were leaving. Sorry I refuse to go back and look since you can do it as readily as I can.

12. I have struggled all my life with the past
I've worked hard not to let it get into my present day and future and I've been successful most of the time. So, I say, we cannot look back, we must look ahead and make sure these women and men get a warm and healthy welcome when they come home. Thank them for their service and work hard to get them what they need. We must let them know they are not a piece of crap. I want them to come home proud and not feel like many vietnam vets felt. If you want to look into the past, look at how we can learn by our mistakes.

We all can argue on this so called Bush war, it happened, now is the time to start healing. Perhaps beginning the healing process could turn our own country around. I am not looking back right now. I'll let history do that. We have many problems to face regarding the future.

13. i am all for that. i am also not going to let a poster rewrite du history like
we were for this war.

and because now we are glad we are taking this first step, we need to be lectured about being there in the first place. WE didnt put us there.

24. cute, my dear, but there was no lecture, and nowhere was it even implied that anyone on DU
ever favoured this war. so, please, quit implying things I never said so that you can feel really good about tearing down statements I never made. it gets a bit tiresome.

16. Why does that mean we can't celebrate the beginning of the end?
McCain had the "100 year" plan, Obama is getting us the H out.

17. It's getting to the point where I don't care to visit much longer.
I used to come here to share in a community of primarily like minded people. Now, I come here to read anti-Democrat talking points? Doesn't seem quite right.

25. Gawd it has been a long time
You'll have to forgive folks for not cheering this move. We have lived with this damn invasion and not many of us consider it to really be over. Certainly, most Iraqis are still hurting from the invasion and continued occupation.

Hopefully some of the Iraqis are feeling a tad better, and for them I am happy. But that level of happiness could be about a 1,000 notches higher, eh?

Anyway, Obama has kept his word, and you can bet some in the pentagon fought him the whole way. He has won this battle.

and I applaud the fact that it's coming to an end. That doesn't mean I broke out the party hats for new found Iraqi freedom however.

But when every last soldier and mercenary from America leaves Iraq, then I can say that our occupation has come to an end.
